Klay Thompson’s father, Mychal Thompson, had nothing but glowing praise for his son’s girlfriend Megan Thee Stallion while speaking to a TMZ Sports reporter. He offered rare insight into how the Mavericks guard’s family views his high-profile relationship.

In a clip shared on Saturday by TMZ, the older Thompson spoke candidly about meeting the Grammy-winning rapper and spending time with her around the holidays. He raved about her cooking skills, highlighting her hands-on effort in the kitchen.
“Very nice neighbor. She can cook for us,” Thompson said. “She made some baked beans … best I’ve ever had in my life. She made a brisket the other night with some special sauce that she cooked up. She can open up a cooking school. She can be a chef. She’s one of the best cooks… Megan is a chef. She’s talented.”

When asked whether wedding bells could be in the future, Mychal made it clear that the decision rests solely with the couple.
“I don’t know. It’s up to them. We’ve got to ask them that,” he said.
Pressed on whether Megan would make a great daughter-in-law, his response was emphatic.
“Oh yeah, man. She’s a really nice girl. Very smart. Very smart lady.”
Megan’s cooking skills were already on public display on Thanksgiving, when she shared a video on Instagram detailing her first holiday spent with Thompson and his family.
“Let me tell you all about cooking for my man and his family for Thanksgiving,” she said in the clip, later adding, “I was really nervous… I’ve got to show them that I really love their son.”
Megan Thee Stallion, who is behind the hits “Sweetest Pie” and “Body,” has won three Grammy Awards. She began dating Thompson in the summer of 2025. The couple made their red carpet debut at the Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala on July 16, 2025, where Megan described the relationship as a refreshing change.
“This is my first relationship where I’ve ever been with somebody who’s genuinely a nice person, and he makes me genuinely happy,” she told Page Six at the event.
Megan has also been a visible presence supporting Thompson during the Dallas Mavericks’ 2025-26 season, including attending the season opener against the San Antonio Spurs. While marriage rumors have followed the pair, she has publicly emphasized that she is not rushing into anything and prefers to move at her own pace.
On the basketball side, Thompson is adjusting to a new chapter late in his career. After 13 seasons with the Golden State Warriors, where he formed the iconic Splash Brothers duo with Stephen Curry and won four NBA championships, Thompson joined the Mavericks via sign-and-trade on July 6, 2024.
The season has been a challenging one. Thompson is averaging 11.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per game while shooting 39% from the field. He has appeared in 44 games but has started only eight, as Dallas continues to search for consistency.
While Thompson’s on-court role evolves, his off-court life appears stable, with family approval and a supportive partner.
