Kevin Durant Trade Rumors: NBA Insider Reveals 3 Potential Landing Spots for the $54,708,608 Superstar

Kevin Durant could be on the move this offseason. Here are three teams that make sense for the $54 million Suns superstar.

Kevin Durant’s name is once again buzzing around the NBA rumor mill, and this time, it’s not just noise. The Phoenix Suns are coming off a disappointing season, and while Durant remains one of the league’s most skilled scorers, the possible future Hall of Famer may soon find himself in a new jersey.

A few contenders have quietly started lining up. But with his age, injury history, and hefty salary, trading Durant won’t be simple. Still, don’t count on him staying quiet this summer.

Where Kevin Durant Could Land Next?

Kevin Durant may be 36, but when healthy, he’s still one of the most dangerous offensive players in the league. However, despite averaging over 26 points per game and maintaining elite efficiency, the Suns missed the playoffs. And team owner Mat Ishbia has already promised changes. That has opened the door just slightly for a Durant trade as well.

But here’s the catch: the Suns won’t entertain offers unless they’re blown away. This isn’t a rebuild. It’s a retool. That means any team hoping to land Durant has to be ready to part with serious assets, without gutting their own roster in the process.

Here are the three possible landing spots for Durant per the veteran NBA insider Mark Medina of RG.

Huston Rockets

The Houston Rockets are one of the few teams that could pull it off. Sure, they’ve got a young core and a long-term plan, but their playoff exit to the Golden State Warriors exposed a real issue—no go-to superstar. Durant gives them exactly that.

Houston can put together a package built around Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr., and some combination of Tari Eason, Fred VanVleet, and future picks. Coach Ime Udoka already has a good relationship with Durant from their time in Brooklyn. That matters.

Miami Heat

The Miami Heat is also a possible contender to land the two-time NBA champion. Pat Riley is always hunting for star power, and this summer might be no different. More importantly, Jimmy Butler III’s trade and their early playoff exit might push them to bring superstar Durant to Miami. The Heat won’t want to part with Bam Adebayo or Tyler Herro, but they do have solid pieces like Duncan Robinson, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and future picks.

Durant would slide in as a natural scoring option beside Adebayo, while Herro could thrive off the attention Durant commands. It’s not a perfect match, but it’s the kind of swing Miami has taken before and nailed.

San Antonio Spurs

The third team in play is San Antonio Spurs. Victor Wembanyama is a once-in-a-generation talent, and San Antonio wants to win soon. Pairing Durant with Wemby and De’Aaron Fox would make the Spurs an instant threat in the West. They’d have to give up solid players like Devin Vassell or Keldon Johnson — but they’d keep the core intact.

With Victor Wembanyama handling the defense and De’Aaron Fox running the offense, Kevin Durant wouldn’t need to carry the team every night. He could focus on efficient scoring while leaning on a rising core that’s already capable of winning games without him dominating every possession.

The Tricky Reality of Trading Durant

While other teams like the Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors have been linked to Durant, nothing concrete has emerged. The Warriors, in particular, might be open to a reunion, but Durant reportedly declined the idea back in February. The Suns know what they have an aging but elite talent with a massive contract. Moving Durant requires more than just interest; it needs a perfect fit, flexibility, and the right offer.

The Suns are reportedly seeking a trade package comparable to what they gave up to acquire Durant, which included Cameron Johnson, Jae Crowder, Mikal Bridges, a pick swap and four first-round picks. This high asking price reflects Durant’s value but may limit potential trade partners.

But this is the NBA. Superstars don’t just get traded – they shift the league’s power structure. If Durant moves this summer, don’t be surprised if he takes a fringe contender and makes them feel like favorites.
