NBA World Reacts to Kevin Durant’s Post-All-Star Break Dominance: ‘Better Than Everyone This Season Bar Jokić and SGA’

The NBA world is praising Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant as a legitimate MVP candidate following his elite scoring surge.

Kevin Durant is once again bending the league to his rhythm. Since the All-Star break, the 37-year-old has strung together a series of ultra-efficient scoring nights that have reignited MVP chatter and pushed the Houston Rockets firmly into the Western Conference’s upper tier.

NBA World Declares Kevin Durant an MVP Lock Behind Nikola Jokić and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

As his 30-point outings pile up, social media is making a bold claim: only Nikola Jokić and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander have been better this season. KD’s numbers don’t lie even one bit!

Brand Ambassador of Basketball Reference, Bradeaux, tabulated all of KD’s 30-point games since the break, featuring true shooting marks of 76.6%, 70.7%, and 78.8%.

That level of shot-making efficiency across multiple high-volume nights is typically reserved for MVP frontrunners.

FanDuel Sportsbook wrote, “Kevin Durant since the All-Star break 29.4 PPG 6.1 RPG 5.1 APG 54.1% FG Don’t let KD get hot.” True. When a player sustains that efficiency at nearly 30 a night, it’s no longer a hot streak. It’s pure dominance.

Sports influencer handle on X, @Stunna999_, wrote: “Kevin Durant is easily a top 5 MVP candidate the disrespect has to stop man he’s 37 years old doing this.” Longevity at that production level only strengthens the argument.

Underdog’s X handle had a totally different take on KD’s performance: “Kevin Durant since the DMs leaked: 29.4 PPG 6.1 RPG 5.1 APG The Rockets are also 5-2 over that span. Ultimate motivator.” Jokes aside, Houston’s 5-2 stretch directly mirrors Durant’s scoring surge.

Meanwhile, KD Prime highlighted the broader picture: Houston sits third in the West through 60 games, outperforming last season despite injuries and $40 million in dead salary, while Durant averages 27 on 51/40/90 splits with elite defense.

That kind of winning, combined with historic efficiency, is the foundation of any serious MVP case.

What KDPrime also did was elaborate on the case for KD’s dominance. They stated hard facts that are truly difficult to ignore, comparing KD to the league’s best.

The numbers behind that claim are hard to ignore. Durant is averaging 34 points on 54% shooting over a three-game stretch, while contributing rebounds, playmaking, rim protection, and steals. It’s not just scoring volume; it’s two-way impact.

When you pair that with his season-long efficiency (hovering around 51/40/90 splits) and the Houston Rockets sitting near the top of the Western Conference, the All-NBA First Team argument becomes far less reactionary and far more statistical.

As for the “better than everyone bar” Jokić and Gilgeous-Alexander take, that’s where debate enters. But when a 37-year-old is producing elite scoring bursts while anchoring a contender, the MVP conversation naturally follows.

So, across the board, the sentiment is clear. Outside of Jokić and Gilgeous-Alexander, Durant belongs squarely in that elite tier this season.

KD Shoots Another 30-Piece and a Veteran Masterclass

Durant backed up the noise with another 30-point outing in a 123–118 win over the Washington Wizards. He finished with 30 points (8-15 FG, 3-6 3PT, 11-11 FT), seven rebounds, and seven assists in 37 minutes, calmly closing the door as Houston improved to 38–22.

He’s now scored 30 or more in three straight games and continues to serve as the steady engine of a Rockets team climbing the standings.

Beyond the box score, Durant also shows his influence beyond scoring explosions. He was dedicated to staying on the floor after the game to mentor the Wizards’ young man, Kyshawn George. He was seen pulling him on the sidelines for an extended post-game chat. It looked like he was giving him tips on improving his positioning and shot selection.

Truly, when at 37, other stars are winding down, KD is becoming a beast. He’s tightening up his grip on the MVP conversations.
