Kawhi Leonard, Tyronn Lue React As Clippers Writer Must ‘Eat the Tweet’ Thanks to Viral Vow Before LA’s Stunning Turnaround

Kawhi Leonard and Tyronn Lue weigh in on a Clippers writer's bizarre pledge to "eat the tweet" tied to LA's midseason resurgence.

Kawhi Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers cruised to a 126-89 home victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday, continuing their improbable midseason turnaround.

During the lopsided affair, Clippers fans playfully urged team writer Robert Flom to make good on a viral pledge, garnering amused postgame reactions from Leonard and LA coach Tyronn Lue.

After its dreadful 6-21 start, LA appeared to be in store for a lost season, with questions mounting about the franchise’s aging, injury-prone roster and questionable long-term outlook.

However, Leonard and Co. have since flipped the script, rattling off 15 wins in their last 18 outings to re-enter the Western Conference play-in picture as they inch closer to .500 (21-24).

The Clippers have boasted a top-three offensive rating (120.0) and top-five defensive rating (111.1) during that stretch, with Leonard leading the way with superstar-caliber two-way production. This includes averages of 31.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.4 steals, 0.9 blocks, and 3.7 3-pointers per game on elite 50.6/43.1/91.6 shooting splits.

Unfortunately for Flom, LA’s stunning resurgence has coincided with his Dec. 20 tweet in which he made a peculiar vow tied to the veteran squad’s success.

“If they go 15-3 in any stretch this season will print and eat this tweet,” Flom wrote.

Amid Sunday’s blowout, in which the Clippers led by as many as 40 points, fans had fun reminding Flom of his pledge, with “eat the tweet” chants breaking out at Intuit Dome. The writer later responded on X, promising to stay true to his word on his next podcast appearance.

“It is officially 15-3, so I will be eating this tweet tomorrow on @ClippersPod for their stream at 5:30 PM PT,” Flom wrote. “It will be very anticlimactic I’m sure, but you are welcome to tune in!”

Leonard, who recorded a game-high 28 points in just 25 minutes, acknowledged postgame that he was unaware of the humorous narrative. When given the details, the six-time All-Star offered Flom some sage health advice.

“That’s funny. He better try to see if he can eat something else. I don’t know how healthy that is,” Leonard said.

Conversely, Lue laughingly expressed excitement to see Flom follow through.

“We gotta get him on camera then? Where’s he at? Tell him to call in. … Gotta go live!” Lue quipped.

In addition to winning 15 of 18 contests, LA has won two straight games and eight of its last nine. It should have a prime opportunity to keep its success going during Tuesday’s road matchup against the rebuilding Utah Jazz (15-31), who continue to trend down in the cutthroat West.
