NBA Legend Speculates Knicks Star Karl-Anthony Towns Wants Out of New York

An NBA legend has speculated that New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns wants out following a dreadful spell in January.

For the New York Knicks to be in the hunt for an NBA title, they need their All-Star big man, Karl-Anthony Towns, firing on all cylinders.

However, one NBA legend believes Towns is unhappy with his situation with the Knicks and is potentially looking to exit.

Karl-Anthony Towns ‘Doesn’t Want To Be There’

Speaking on the ‘KG Certified’ show, NBA champion Paul Pierce said, “I don’t think he happy there. He’s too talented and too good.” Pierce’s rant came after Towns produced 6 points, 1 rebound, and 1 assist in 23 minutes against the Detroit Pistons in early January.

He added, “I can see stuff. He looks so frustrated out there. He’s an All-Star talent, and I don’t think he looks happy… He doesn’t want to be there.”

There is no question that Towns is one of the best big men in the NBA, being a key component to the Knicks’ Eastern Conference Finals run last season. Despite a dreadful January, Towns has still averaged 20.9 points and 11.5 rebounds on a Knicks team that sits third in the Eastern Conference.

So, what’s the problem? Towns thrives in an offense initiated by him, where he can dictate the game and regularly find the ball in the spots he’s most effective.

Under the stewardship of Mike Brown in New York, every offense is orchestrated by their superstar point guard, Jalen Brunson. In essence, Towns must fulfill the role of a traditional big man in the NBA, setting more screens, creating more spacing, and having fewer moments with the ball in his hands.

Some players like to vent their frustration verbally, while others show it on the court through subpar performances and a lack of bite on both ends of the floor. With Towns showing a lack of effort and fight in recent weeks, could the five-time All-Star and arguably the most incredible shooting big man be out the door?

With rumors circulating that the Memphis Grizzlies want to now build around Ja Morant rather than trade him, could Jaren Jackson Jr. replace Towns in New York? ESPN’s Tim MacMahon has claimed that Jackson doesn’t want to stick around for a rebuild around Morant, and he could be the perfect replacement for Towns.

The Grizzlies would still be getting an All-Star big, and the Knicks would be getting a more traditional big man, who’s a Defensive Player of the Year winner. Jackson doesn’t need to orchestrate the offense and offers an incredible level of defense that can inspire championship-winning success if the correct pieces are around him.

Whether Towns would want to go to Memphis is a different question, but the trade would represent value for both teams and could be a perfect fit.
