NBA Veteran Sounds Alarm on Karl-Anthony Towns’ ‘Disconnect’ Amid Knicks’ Chemistry Woes: ‘He’s Had Enough’

Charlie Villanueva questions Karl-Anthony Towns' body language, suggesting the Knicks star could soon ask out of New York.

The New York Knicks suffered a 111-94 defeat against the Houston Rockets on Tuesday. However, the Knicks’ offensive woes and the subsequent three-game slide weren’t the only topic of discussion.

Broadcast footage captured Karl-Anthony Towns skipping the team’s sideline huddle at the Toyota Center, prompting a former NBA forward to publicly question the team’s dynamics.

Charlie Villanueva Questions Karl-Anthony Towns’ Body Language Amid Knicks’ Slump

Against Houston, Towns finished with 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists in 34 minutes of action. 7-for-17 shooting from the field underlined what has been an underwhelming season by his standards. The former No. 1 pick has averaged 20.1 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists across 72 games.

For Houston, Kevin Durant paced the offense, going 10-for-18 from the field to score 27 points while also adding 6 rebounds and 8 assists across 35 minutes.

In a clip shared after the game, Towns was seen sitting on the bench while his teammates gathered for a huddle. This viral moment led former NBA player Charlie Villanueva to raise concerns about the team’s chemistry.

“You see a guy that something is bothering him, something is wrong. You talk about that, the disconnect. I don’t know if KAT wants to be there, to be honest. I think he’s had enough. Because if you look at his body language, [it] is not good,” Villanueva said.

“I didn’t see that part right there, obviously, where they’re in the huddle, and obviously, he’s upset. Obviously, something is bothering him; everybody else is together except for him. So, now all the fingers, that right now, is pointed at KAT,” he went on to add.

Villanueva’s comments were the latest addition to the heated debate over Towns’ offensive deployment. With Jalen Brunson serving as the Knicks’ primary ball handler, Towns has been vocal about his stance on his role within the team.

Speaking to Zora Stephenson ahead of Sunday’s 111-100 road loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Towns was candid about his adaptation to Mike Brown’s new system.

“I’m still working through it,” the six-time All-Star said. “Still trying to figure out where I could impact our team and winning the most. Right now, I’m just utilizing my experience so I can do the best I can.”

With a Knicks team heading into the playoffs, Brown will have to iron things out sooner rather than later.

Although New York managed a 130-119 road win against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday, Villanueva’s observation will do little to pour cold water on questions surrounding Towns’ future with a team trying to regain momentum ahead of the playoffs.
