The Los Angeles Lakers — led by head coach JJ Redick — have managed to maintain an impressive record even without LeBron James on the court. And while Luka Dončić continues to impress LA fans, there’s no denying Bronny James’ on-court struggles.
And considering Redick’s recent comment on the court, even the HC is frustrated with James’ son.

On Sunday, the Lakers won 119-95 against the Milwaukee Bucks. Dončić posted 41 points, leading the team to victory almost singlehandedly. Bronny, who started against the Bucks, failed to score any points.
He walked away with one rebound and one assist, playing a total of 10 minutes. Redick — while happy with his team’s overall performance — wasn’t impressed with Bronny.
During a play at the beginning of the game, Bronny had two wide-open possessions and a good chance of attempting easy threes. But the 21-year-old refused to try, visibly hesitating and passing the ball to another teammate.
Redick, frustrated, yelled at Bronny while he said, “Bronny, you gotta shoot the f*cking ball.”
Fans were mostly in agreement, calling out Bronny and the Lakers’ choice to play him as a starter. Of course, considering they drafted the son of an NBA icon, the Lakers must ensure that they focus on improving Bronny as a player.
The overall 55th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Bronny has been struggling to find his place in the league. While the young player’s heart condition was a concern heading into the big league, Bronny has been continuing with a steady pace.
He also spent time playing in the NBA Summer League’s South Bay Lakers. This season, Bronny is averaging two points, one rebound, and 1.8 assists while shooting 26.9% from the field.
That being said, while Redick seemed agitated at Bronny’s lack of shooting, fans had more severe reactions. Some wanted him to stop playing altogether, confident that he did not belong on the professional court.
Redick Was Supportive of Bronny’s Struggles to Start the Season
Despite Redick’s apparent frustration, the HC has been supportive of Bronny’s progress. In a previous interview, Bronny revealed what Redick said, explaining how he’s currently working on bettering himself.
“I feel like I did a great job getting in shape in the summer getting into shape and stuff like that and JJ has told me that I’m playing as hard as I can right now so I’m gonna keep on doing that,” Bronny said, as per So Cal News Group’s Khobi Price.
A few analysts and longtime Lakers fans have some faith in Bronny, wondering if he can turn the tide with the right coaching and practice.
The Lakers, currently ranked fourth in the Western Conference with a 10-4 win-loss record, will face the Utah Jazz for their next game on Tuesday, November 18.
