On Tuesday evening, the Golden State Warriors will continue their preseason action when they visit the Portland Trail Blazers in Oregon.
However, they will be without one of their best three players, as six-time NBA All-Star Jimmy Butler has been ruled out with an ankle injury.
Via ESPN’s Anthony Slater (on October 13): “Jimmy Butler is out tomorrow night in Portland now. He had an ankle sprain in practice on Friday. Steve Kerr said team thought it was minor, but it remains a little swollen. Hope is he returns for Friday’s preseason finale.”

NBA World Reacts to Butler’s Injury
Many fans reacted to Slater’s report (via X).
@Efeso1001: “Curry injured in practice Moody injured in practice and now Jimmy injured in practice”
@inondehfsusld: “key to this season is keeping the veterans healthy, pre-season and both Curry and Butler are already banged up, not to mention the young dude they were counting on Moody”
@BobMcMillan8: “This is phenomenal”
@Preacherman2969: “Father Time is undefeated. This is exactly what I was afraid of. We’ll see how the season goes…”
@DkSky6: “It’s just a preseason game — if he’s hurt, let him rest. Why would anyone want him to come back just for a preseason game? What matters more, the preseason or the regular season? You’ve been coaching this long and still don’t get that?”
@baby_face_goat: “Just rest all the veterans until opening day the pre season is so pointless”
Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints also added more details. Via Siegel: “I am told the Warriors are confident that Jimmy Butler will be available for next Tuesday’s season opener vs. LAL after he rolled his ankle in practice on Friday. The injury was described as nothing more than a “tweak.” He will not play in tonight’s preseason game vs. POR.”

Butler is coming off his first year playing for Golden State.
He finished his 30-game stint with averages of 17.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 1.7 steals per contest while shooting 47.6% from the field and 27.9% from three-point range.
After getting traded to the Warriors, Butler led the team to one of the best finishes in the entire NBA.
However, they lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round of the 2025 NBA playoffs (in five games).
The Warriors will play their first game of the 2025-26 regular season when they visit the Los Angeles Lakers on October 21.
