2020–21 Season
The next season saw Butler improve his game as 21.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 7.1 assists per contest. He also led the NBA with 2.1 steals per game.
2021–22 Season
Butler excelled in the 2021–22 season, as he averaged 21.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. His strong team work added to the superb 53-29 record the Heat posted that season.
The Heat’s coach Erik Spoelstra praised Butler, saying, “He is one of the most intelligent basketball players in this Association you know you can’t do what he does on both ends of the Court just by running around and trying to figure things out he understands you know what we’re trying to do and he understands what they’re trying to do.”
He later added “he’s really developed his game over the years you know particularly the last you know three years to be able to go to different things when we need it.”

During Game 3 against the Los Angeles Lakers, he scored a stunning 40-point triple-double, becoming only the third player in Finals history to reach this milestone, following in the footsteps of LeBron James and Jerry West. In that match, Butler contributed 73 of Miami’s 115 points.
