The Golden State Warriors can’t seem to catch a break this season, and Tuesday night added yet another stressful chapter. Jimmy Butler III, one of the franchise’s most important veterans, exited the game with a knee issue that briefly looked alarming.
But according to early reporting, the Warriors may have dodged a major setback. His status for Thursday’s matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers remains unclear, but the tone around the team suggests cautious optimism.

Latest Jimmy Butler Injury Update
ESPN’s Anthony Slater tried to calm the panic with an update on X, writing that Butler’s knee issue isn’t believed to be serious, though his status for Thursday, Dec. 4 is still to be determined.
Slater added that Butler shouldn’t miss much time. For a team already stretched thin, that’s about as good as the Warriors could hope for.
“Jimmy Butler’s knee issue isn’t believed to be serious, per sources. Status for Thursday night in Philadelphia still to be determined, but he shouldn’t miss much (if any) time,” Slater posted.
Butler’s injury occurred midway through the second quarter against the Oklahoma City Thunder. He tripped slightly on the baseline, lost his shoe, and was visibly uncomfortable immediately after.
As the Thunder pushed the ball downcourt, Butler put the shoe back on and made his way off the floor, limping.
He returned to the game moments later, but the relief didn’t last. Late in the first half, Butler came up limping again and went straight to the locker room.
He did not return after halftime, and the Warriors eventually ruled him out with a sore left knee before the fourth quarter.
Before exiting, Butler posted six points and three rebounds in 15 minutes, shooting 2-of-7 from the field.
The 36-year-old has been one of the few steady presences Golden State has leaned on, averaging 19.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, and five assists while hitting nearly 52% from the field this season.
Warriors’ Season in Crisis Mode
Things aren’t going well for the Golden State Warriors this season, and that’s a blunt truth. Through 22 games, the Warriors sit at 11–11, a far cry from the early-season dominance many expected.
The star trio of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green powered the Warriors back to the playoffs last season.
But the once-formidable combination has yet to materialize in 2025-26. Whether it’s chemistry, fatigue, or simply the grind of age catching up, the group hasn’t delivered the consistency Steve Kerr counted on.
Injuries have only added to the chaos. Curry is already sidelined after suffering a left quadriceps contusion and muscle strain on Nov. 26.
ESPN’s Slater reported that Curry is expected to miss “at least three more games,” leaving the Warriors without their offensive engine for the foreseeable future.
That puts even more pressure on Butler, whose availability now hangs in the balance.
As tough as the situation looks, the Warriors’ schedule isn’t offering any favors. The Golden State is next set to face the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday, Dec. 4.
The hope within the franchise is that Butler will be able to suit up, even in a limited capacity, to prevent the Warriors from sliding into another losing skid.
