‘This System Is Garbage’ – Jazz Fans Riot Against NBA Draft Lottery As Utah Fails To Land No. 1 Pick Despite Worst Record

Utah Jazz fans explode in frustration after the team falls to No. 5 in the NBA Draft Lottery despite having one of the worst records.

Utah Jazz fans have seen some painful seasons, but nothing quite like the recent developments. After months of suffering through a dismal 17-win campaign (the team’s worst in over a decade), fans finally had a reason to believe in their team’s upward ascent.

With a 14% chance at the No. 1 pick and Cooper Flagg waiting on the other side, it felt like the light at the end of the tunnel. But then the unthinkable happened, and let’s just say, the fanbase isn’t taking it quietly.

Fans Erupt As Utah Jazz Fall in 2025 NBA Lottery

Jazz finished the season near the bottom, embraced the tank, and had the joint-best odds to win the 2025 top pick. But when the ping-pong balls stopped bouncing, the Jazz were staring at the fifth pick. Naturally, Utah’s fans were furious.

“Safe to say, this system is garbage,” one fan vented on X.

Another chimed in, trying to make sense of the madness: “I mean, can’t help but think the NBA told Mavs to trade Luka to Lakers and they’ll get 1st overall in exchange.”

The skepticism isn’t new. Since the lottery format changed in 2019, no team with the worst regular-season record has landed the top pick. The current system gives equal odds to the three worst teams, as opposed to the old model that gave the worst team a 25% chance.

Fans are clearly done with it. “Lottery system is stupid, NFL style multi-round worst-to-best is the way to go,” another wrote.

Others weren’t holding back, calling it “entirely illogical” and “by far the worst system for the draft in sports.”

One fan, unable to make heads or tails of the lottery, added:

It’s not just frustration, it’s fatigue. This is the third straight season the Jazz have been near the bottom of the standings, and while this year’s tank job secured a top-five pick, it didn’t land them the prize they were chasing all along – ‘Cooper Flagg.’

Jazz Draft Prospects After the Lottery Shakeup

Flagg likely heading to Dallas wasn’t just bad luck; it was heartbreak. Jazz fans had spent the season dreaming of the Duke forward transforming the franchise. Instead, the Jazz were left holding pick No. 5.

There’s still talent on the board, of course. The Jazz also hold picks 21, 43, and 53 in next month’s draft. But fans wanted the chance at a generational player.

Top prospects like Dylan Harper, Ace Bailey, and VJ Edgecombe may all be off the board by the time Utah is up. That leaves the front office with tough decisions. Tre Johnson is currently projected as a top fit at five according to PFSN 2025 NBA Mock Draft. Others like Jeremiah Fears and Kon Knueppel are also being floated in mock drafts.

But none of that softens the blow they have been dealt by losing the No. 1 Draft pick and the Duke sensation.
