For a moment, Boston Celtics fans feared the worst. Jayson Tatum, their franchise star, went down with an ankle injury during Monday night’s 113-95 win over the Sacramento Kings, leaving the game early.

Jayson Tatum Provides Positive Injury Update

Tatum made his first public comments on his injury during his appearance on the New Heights podcast with Travis and Jason Kelce on March 25. Instead of sounding worried, the Celtics star was calm and confident.

“I’m feeling good, man. There’s a few benefits to being 27. You know, you recover a little bit faster. I’ll be alright,” Tatum said, reassuring fans that his ankle issue isn’t a long-term concern.

Tatum’s injury occurred in the third quarter against the Kings when he drained a three-pointer and was fouled by Sacramento’s Domantas Sabonis. As he landed, his left foot came down on Sabonis’, causing him to fall awkwardly. The referees ruled it a flagrant 1 foul on Sabonis.

Despite the pain, Tatum briefly returned to shoot his free throws, making one of two before heading to the locker room. He finished the game with 25 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists.

After the game, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla reassured fans, saying, “He seems to be doing OK, he’s just icing it right now.” He added that Tatum was taking the necessary precautions and that the team would monitor him closely.

Tatum himself kept things brief but positive when speaking to ESPN after the game, describing his ankle as “just sore.” While there’s no official timeline for his return, the Celtics remain optimistic that their star won’t be sidelined for long.

Celtics Stay Focused on Playoff Goals

Tatum’s availability is crucial as Boston gears up for the playoffs. The Celtics officially clinched a postseason spot after defeating the Miami Heat last Friday, marking their 11th consecutive playoff appearance. They currently lead the Eastern Conference and have lost just one of their last 10 games.

Tatum has been instrumental in their success, averaging 27.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, and six assists this season. With a championship in their sights, Boston will take no risks in ensuring their franchise player is at full strength when it matters most. Tatum is listed as doubtful for the Celtics’ next game as they face the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday, March 25, at PHX Arena.

For now, all signs point to a minor setback rather than a major concern—good news for the Celtics and their championship ambitions.
