Jaylen Brown was playing the final stretch of his 2024-25 NBA season with a major injury. According to multiple reports, he ended his season with a torn meniscus. The offseason was all about recovery for the Boston Celtics star, and in a recent update, the Guard-Forward underwent a successful surgery.
NBA insider Shams Charania provided the latest on the four-time All-Star, and in good news for the Celtics faithful, his return timeline has been revealed.

In his tweet, Charania announced that Brown had successfully undergone arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and that he was “expected to be ready for 2025-26 training camp.”

Earlier in March, Brown was administered injections in his knee to block the pain. However, the playoff competition didn’t see him at his fluent best. The Celtics faced a double-whammy with Jayson Tatum’s torn Achilles and the elimination that followed. Now, the focus for both stars is on their recovery and making it back healthy for the next season, although Tatum is still expected to have a lengthy absence.
In his 63 games this season, Brown averaged 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists on 46.3% shooting. His prolific scoring and all-around play are crucial for Boston next season. Boston ended their season 61-21 and made the second round of the playoffs. However, they were overpowered 4-2 by the New York Knicks.
It also remains to be seen how the trade rumors pan out, with Brown mentioned quite a few times earlier this month. The procedure and his absence may play a part in teams’ decisions to add him to their fold.
Leading up to Charania’s update, league insider Chris Mannix on NBC Sports Boston’s “The Off-Season” linked Brown to the San Antonio Spurs. “The team I’d watch the closest with Jaylen Brown is probably the Spurs, Mannix said.
“Sure, I think [the Spurs would] love to make a run at Giannis [Antetokounmpo], but do the Bucks ask for Stephon Castle? Like, is that on their wish list? And if it is, I can’t see San Antonio doing a deal like that.”
For now, many of the rumors have no concrete outcome. This would mean Brown is a Celtic who will be tasked with keeping the team in contention in Tatum’s absence next season. Only time will tell if he and Joe Mazzulla can get Boston off to a top start in the 2025-26 season.
