76ers Guard Jared McCain Leans Into Criticism of Painted Nails by Launching His Own Nail Polish Brand

76ers rookie Jared McCain turns criticism into confidence by launching his own nail polish line, “MVP,” in partnership with Sally Hansen.

Jared McCain, the talented Philadelphia 76ers rookie, who faced a ton of criticism for painting his nails, is now doing something bold and personal.

Instead of ignoring the chatter, McCain is turning it into a brand. On Friday, May 16, the 21-year-old guard gave fans a sneak peek at his own nail polish line—the “MVP.” That’s right—Most Valuable Polish. What started as a habit has now become a statement.

Jared McCain Launches “MVP” Nail Polish

The former McDonald’s All-American has officially dropped his own nail polish collection. The line, called “MVP,” is a collaboration with Sally Hansen and features bold shades namely Bucket Blue, Goat Gold, Point Guard Pink, Rookie Red, and Net Neutral.

In a TikTok post, McCain showed off the colors and reflected on how far he’s come. “It’s crazy to even think that when I first started painting my nails, that I’d be here with my own collection,” he said.

The moment means more when you remember the heat McCain took early in his basketball journey. When he walked across the NBA Draft stage in June last year wearing black nail polish, many fans weren’t kind. Critics questioned everything from his masculinity to whether he cared more about TikTok than hoops.

But McCain kept doing it. “That’s a necessity for me, to feel myself, to be myself,” he told PEOPLE. He also said he’s leaning toward Sixers-themed colors—red, white, and blue—for his own nails next.

More than polish—it’s a statement.

For McCain, polishing nails isn’t just about colors and gloss. It’s about confidence. And McCain’s had plenty of it.

Before getting injured in December, the Rookie made a serious mark. He averaged 15.3 points and 2.6 assists over a 23-game stretch, earning a regular spot in the Sixers’ rotation. He was even in the Rookie of the Year race before a torn meniscus cut his season short.

The nail polish wasn’t a fashion stunt. McCain revealed that it actually started as a way to stop biting his nails when he was at Duke. After painting them, he played one of his best games and never looked back.

Even NBA legends took notice. Back in December, Carmelo Anthony defended him. “Let them boys be themselves,” Anthony told Complex. “Let them do what they do and have their fun… they do it differently than we did it.”

That message seems to have stuck with McCain. Despite the early backlash, he built a following of over 4.7 million on TikTok and stayed true to his personality.

Now, by turning criticism into creativity, McCain is showing that being different isn’t a weakness—it’s a brand. And with “MVP,” he’s not just putting color on nails. He’s putting confidence on display.
