The New York Knicks’ championship win over the San Antonio Spurs disproved an earlier assessment from Las Vegas Aces head coach Becky Hammon regarding Jalen Brunson.
Hammon’s old comments have continued to draw criticism from fans, analysts, and former players. Brunson’s teammate, Josh Hart, was the latest to take a jab at the WNBA coach.

Josh Hart Revives Becky Hammon’s Comments on Jalen Brunson Following Knicks’ Title
Hammon’s comments about Brunson did not stem from her previous connection to the Spurs, where she served as an assistant coach. Instead, the assessment traces back to 2023, when she argued that Brunson was “too small” to be the best player on a team capable of winning an NBA championship.
Even after the Knicks swept the Cleveland Cavaliers to reach the NBA Finals this season, Hammon stood by her original take.
Stating that she was speaking from experience, the Vegas head coach said she was willing to be “proven wrong.”

Brunson ended up doing exactly that, leading New York to its first NBA title in 53 years. Amid this, Hart has made it clear he is still waiting for that apology.
“I’m not naming names: I’m still waiting for somebody,” Hart said in the “Roommates Show,” hosted by him, Brunson, and Matt Hillman.

The audience, seemingly aware of exactly who Hart meant, instantly responded by chanting Hammon’s name.
“…to say they was wrong about someone who led our team to a championship… I know they have media availability so we’ll be waiting for that apology,” Hart continued.
Hart’s comments came just a few days after Mikal Bridges also called out Hammon during an Instagram Live.
“I don’t [care] what y’all say, what he say. I know him,” Bridges said. “Cause he ain’t gon’ tell y’all.”
Brunson’s championship run has already earned a place among the most memorable postseason performances in NBA history.

Along with his sustained production since arriving in New York, many now view Brunson as one of the greatest players in Knicks history. Some have even begun discussing where he belongs among the NBA’s all-time greats, only increasing the spotlight on Hammon’s earlier comments.
Brunson capped off the championship run with a spectacular performance in Game 5, finishing with 45 points while shooting 51.9% from the field and 57.1% from 3-point range. He became only the second Knicks player to win Finals MVP, joining Willis Reed.
