Grizzlies Star Ja Morant Drops 4-Word Reaction to Controversial Finger Gun Gesture vs. Warriors

Ja Morant and controversy? Name a more iconic duo at this point. Well, the Memphis Grizzlies needed their star guard back to focusing on hoops. But it’s Morant, right? So here comes another storm.

This time, it’s the finger-gun that has sent shockwaves. It was a gesture made by Morant during the Memphis Grizzlies’ heated showdown with the Golden State Warriors. And Morant? He hit social media with a four-word reaction that might be as lethal as the finger-gun.

The Gesture That Sparked An Investigation

With under 21 seconds left in the fourth, the Grizzlies were staring down a 134-125 loss when Morant turned toward the Warriors’ bench and flashed what appeared to be a finger-gun motion.

It didn’t take long for everyone to notice. Golden State’s Stephen Curry and Draymond Green caught the moment instantly. Even the NBA took notice, launching an investigation into the gesture.

The thing is, Morant wasn’t the only one pulling off the move. Warriors guard Buddy Hield had directed the same gesture at Morant earlier in the game. Both players ended up with technicals, but that’s not where the story ends.

This isn’t new territory for Morant either. The 24-year-old already served two suspensions for flashing a gun on social media—an eight-game suspension in March 2023 for an incident in a Colorado nightclub and a 25-game suspension later that year for doing it again. So yeah, the NBA isn’t taking this latest incident lightly.

    Ja Morant’s Reaction? Classic Morant

While everyone debated the seriousness of the gesture, Morant wasted no time addressing the situation in the most Morant way possible, on social media. Hitting up X, the Grizzlies star dropped a short but telling post: “ja this .. ja that .. 😂.”

Laughing it off? Deflecting? However you read it, the league isn’t likely to brush this one under the rug. With the Grizzlies fighting to hold onto the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference, another Morant suspension could be a brutal blow to their postseason hopes.

The NBA’s disciplinary powers give Commissioner Adam Silver plenty of room to act. The league constitution allows him to hand out fines or suspensions for conduct “prejudicial to or against the best interests of the Association.” If past cases are any sign, Memphis fans might want to brace themselves.

For now, the Grizzlies are holding their breath, waiting on what comes next. Morant? He’s busy posting. The NBA? Making a decision. And the Warriors? Well, they got the win and a front-row seat to another Morant headline. Stay tuned—this saga isn’t over yet.
