The Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Hailey Summers Love Story

Upon accepting his 2025 Regular Season MVP award, Gilgeous-Alexander said, “Hailey Summers, thank you for everything you are — for me, for our son, Ares. You were the first person to show me what love really meant, what sacrifice really meant.”

He doubled down on his emotional statement, “Thank you for everything. I wouldn’t be the man I am, I wouldn’t be the player I am, I wouldn’t be the father I am, without you. Thank you.”

Born on Oct 22. 1999, Summers grew up in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. She attended St. Mary Catholic Secondary School and played soccer, basketball, and football.

She was born to Ron Summers and Carolyn Oliver and has two siblings: a sister, Taylor, and a brother, Will.

Though it’s officially unknown when Gilgeous-Alexander and Summers met, the first time they appeared publicly together was in 2017, when the pair posed for a Polaroid on Instagram.

Gilgeous-Alexander isn’t the only exceptional athlete in the relationship; Summers played NCAA Division 1 soccer for the University of Albany and made 73 appearances from 2017 to 2021.

The OKC superstar and former soccer captain got married in an intimate ceremony on Feb 14. 2024, and just under two months later, they announced the birth of their son, Ares Alexander, on April 25, 2024.

With his wife being an incredible athlete herself, Gilgeous-Alexander seeks guidance and mentorship when things aren’t going his way in the NBA.

He told Andscape, “She played basketball. She sees things. If my mindset is off, she makes sure I know. Those are the things that I can control. And she can see if I wear it on my sleeve.”

It’s safe to say that Summers continues to support Gilgeous-Alexander incredibly, with OKC flying at the top of the Western Conference and the MVP still playing at the top of his game. The Canadian is second in points per game (32.5) and averages 6.5 assists, shooting 55.4% from the field.
