The Minnesota Timberwolves will look to take a big step towards making the Western Conference Finals when they face the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday. Ahead of tip-off, all eyes will be on whether Anthony Edwards suits up for Game 3.
The Timberwolves stunned San Antonio in the opening game of the series, led by a Herculean effort from Edwards. The guard managed to play despite dealing with hyperextension and a bone bruise in his left knee. The Spurs then tied the series in Game 2, and fans are eagerly waiting to see if he suits up.
Anthony Edwards Injury Update: Will the Timberwolves Guard Play in Game 3 vs. the Spurs?
Edwards is officially listed as questionable on the injury report for Game 3 of the Timberwolves-Spurs series. The 24-year-old played through the pain barrier in Game 1, finishing with 18 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists in 25 minutes off the bench.
In Game 2, he played 24 minutes and put up 12 points, along with 5 rebounds. He was clearly not his usual self, as the Wolves star made only five out of his 13 FGA.
It will be interesting to see whether the Timberwolves limit Edwards’ minutes in Game 3, especially with a road win already in the bag. A final decision on his availability will likely be made closer to the tip-off.
Edwards’ return in Game 1 came as a surprise to many, considering he missed Games 5 and 6 of the Timberwolves’ first-round series against the Denver Nuggets, and was expected to be sidelined for around two weeks.
Minnesota head coach Chris Finch heaped praise on Edwards after his Game 1 heroics.
“He’s done an incredible job, and our medical staff has done an unbelievable job of getting him to this point. He was super motivated by the fact we were able to get that first series. I think that was a little bit of an inspiration for him, too,” he said.
In addition to Edwards, the Timberwolves will also be sweating on Ayo Dosunmu’s fitness. He is dealing with a calf injury.
With the possibility of calf soreness escalating to an Achilles issue, the Timberwolves will be cautious with Dosunmu. Whether he plays likely depends on how he feels and moves during pregame warmups ahead of Game 3.
Meanwhile, Donte DiVincenzo remains sidelined after rupturing his Achilles. His absence has also been noticeable as the Timberwolves fight with everything on the line against the Spurs.
The Spurs are looking comfortable at this point in the series. They lost Game 1 by a single point and came back fighting in Game 2 with a blowout win. Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox will be the players to watch out for, especially after they led the Spurs to their highest-scoring playoff game since 1983.
