What Happened to Anthony Edwards?

Edwards, one of the league’s bright young players, missed the Timberwolves’ games on Tuesday and Friday due to a foot injury.

His absence is due to an infection in the toe of his right foot.

Because Edwards has been dealing with the infection since earlier in the week, the Timberwolves found it difficult to project when he could return.

ESPN’s Shams Charania detailed the injury.

“Anthony Edwards is dealing with what is a re-infection in the toe in his right foot. He has been getting treatment for it, allowing it to calm down,” Charania reported. “He is already though back on the court. He is gonna be day-to-day on a returned action.”

Edwards has overcome this injury before, so it shouldn’t be a major concern for the Timberwolves.

“Just a reminder, he dealt with the same infection in December. He missed 11 days because of it. Just allowed it to calm down. Get treatment for it. Then essentially it is a very, very similar process for him. He is gonna be out against Houston. He is gonna be day to day for a return from that infection in that foot,” Charania said.

The Timberwolves easily beat the Milwaukee Bucks, winning 139-106 on Tuesday night. However, they clearly missed Edwards during a 110-105 loss to the Houston Rockets, another Western Conference contender, on Friday night.

Now the Timberwolves enter the second night of a back-to-back with a huge matchup against the Spurs. The big question is whether or not Edwards will take the floor.

Is Anthony Edwards Playing Against the Spurs Tonight?

According to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, Edwards will play when the Timberwolves face the Spurs Saturday night.

That’s obviously great news for the Timberwolves.

Edwards is having another fantastic season. The 24-year-old is putting up 28.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. He’s also been shooting lights out, hitting 50.0% from the field and a blistering 40.9% from beyond the arc.

It’s also great for the league in general. Edwards will face off against another of the league’s rising stars: the Spurs’ big man Victor Wembanyama.

Wembanyama is also having a strong season, averaging 23.9 points, 10.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.7 blocks. He’s shooting 51.6% from the floor and 37.7% from three.

Not only are two of the young stars squaring off, but the Timberwolves and Spurs have been among the best teams this season. The Spurs enter with a record of 28-13, the second-best mark in the West. The Timberwolves are right behind them, in fourth place, with a 27-15 record. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET.
