How Does the NBA Draft Lottery Work?
The NBA Draft will take place on June 25 and 26, usually consisting of two rounds with 30 picks in each round. There will be 59 total picks this year as some teams do not have draft picks.
The first 14 picks in the draft lottery determine the order in which teams will select. The lottery usually consists of the 14 teams that failed to reach the NBA playoffs. Only the first 14 picks will be decided during the lottery, with the remainder (15-60) determined by the team’s win percentage from lowest to highest throughout the 2024-25 season.

Cooper Flagg Set To Go First?
Duke’s Cooper Flagg represents a goldmine for many teams in the draft lottery. Standing at 6-foot-8 with exceptional two-way wing abilities, Flagg sits atop the list of the best prospects in this draft class.
Flagg’s sustained ability to create shots from all three levels of the court, paring with his dynamic defensive ability, the Duke forward has a realistic chance to become a top-five player in the NBA in the near future.
With teams clamoring for his services, whoever wins the draft lottery will hold all the cards in shaping the future of their franchise. The team could either select Flagg, choose another top prospect, or trade the No. 1 pick for a disgruntled superstar — a move that has become an annual offseason tradition.
The future of the NBA could look very different after the results of the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery are revealed. Stay tuned — it all unfolds at 7 p.m. ET on May 12.
