2025 NBA Championship Prize Money: A Look at How Much the Winners Will Earn, Team Payouts, and More

NBA Finals 2025 earnings breakdown: A look at record bonuses, team payouts, and the big money players take home.

The Oklahoma City Thunder clinched their first NBA title on Sunday as they triumphed over the Indiana Pacers in a tightly contested series. In the first Game 7 of the NBA finals since 2016, the Thunder, who finished with a league-best 68–14 record, defeated the Pacers 103-91 to write their names in the history books. With the glory of the top honor, what also follows is the financial gain coming from the prize money.

The NBA distributes playoff bonuses through a tiered system that rewards both regular-season performance and postseason success. Teams accumulate money from seeding bonuses, then add earnings for each playoff round advanced, culminating in the $8.8 million payout for this year’s champion—part of a record $34.7 million prize pool.

The Thunder and the Indiana Pacers, the Eastern Conference’s No. 4 seed, have already locked in major bonuses from their playoff runs. And now that the championship run is over, more is on the way.

NBA Bonus Structure Breakdown

According to Kurt Badenhausen and Lev Akabas of Sportico, here’s how this year’s bonus structure breaks down for both teams:

Best record in NBA: $869,000 (Thunder)
No. 1 conference seed: $761,000 (Thunder)
No. 4 conference seed: $372,000 (Pacers)
First-round participation: $466,000 each
Conference semifinals: $568,000 each
Conference finals: $951,000 each
NBA Finals winner: $8,805,000
NBA Finals runner-up: $3,803,000

How Do the Oklahoma City Thunder Benefit As They Grab the 2025 NBA Championship?

Thanks to their dominant season, the Thunder have secured the largest possible bonus haul. They’ve already banked $869,000 for having the NBA’s best record and $761,000 for claiming the West’s top seed. Add $466,000 for reaching the First Round, $568,000 for making the Semifinals, and $951,000 for the Conference Finals.

As they win the Championship, the Thunder will add another $8.8 million, bringing their total playoff payout to over $12.4 million. That would mark the largest possible team bonus under the current NBA structure—an enormous reward for a season of excellence.

Divided among a standard roster, Thunder players would receive about $828,000 each. For players on rookie or minimum deals, that bonus could be a game-changer.

With all this, Indiana still takes home the $3.8 million runner-up payout. Added to their $2.4 million in playoff and seeding bonuses, the Pacers would earn around $6.2 million total.

What the Indiana Pacers Could Have Earned Had They Won It All?

If the Pacers pulled off the upset, they’d have earned the $8.8 million title bonus plus $372,000 for their fourth-seed finish, $466,000 for the first round, $568,000 for the semifinals, and $951,000 for reaching the conference finals.

Their total playoff earnings would have hit around $11.2 million—not as high as OKC’s potential total, but still a massive payday for a franchise that was chasing its first NBA title.

In that case, Pacers players would have earned roughly $747,000 each in bonuses. That would have been huge for a roster made up of key contributors on smaller contracts—players who’ve fueled Indiana’s deep run with chemistry and grit instead of All-NBA star power.

Meanwhile, the Thunder would have still collected $3.8 million as the Finals runner-up. With their previously earned $3.6 million, their total playoff bonus would have landed at about $7.4 million.

The two scenarios show how the NBA balances regular-season rewards with playoff performance. While dominant teams like the Thunder can rack up more cash through seeding, the championship bonus gives underdog teams like the Pacers a shot to nearly match that total with a deep postseason run.
