Kendrick Perkins Dubs Rockets the ‘Laundry Mat’ After Historic Overtime Collapse: ‘Fold Like Clean Sheets Every Single Time’

Kendrick Perkins calls out the Rockets after a shocking overtime loss, raising questions about their consistency despite a strong season record.

The Houston Rockets currently have a 43-29 record. They hold the sixth spot in the Western Conference and are firmly in the playoff picture.

Things are not bad for them by any measure. But after their latest overtime loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday, former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins wasted no time letting them hear about it.

Kendrick Perkins Trolls the Rockets After Overtime Collapse

In a recent segment on “NBA on ESPN,” Perkins took a shot at the Rockets following their loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night.

“I got a new nickname for the Rockets. Laundry mat, because they’re just waiting to come out the dryer because they’re going to fold like clean sheets. Every single time,” Perkins said during the segment.

Beyond the ESPN segment, Perkins also called out the team and his former teammate, Kevin Durant, in a recent segment of the “Road Trippin Show.”

“KD, this is the second time over the last two or three weeks that he went to the free-throw line and got those Megan Thee Stallion knees. He got the shaker, and he blew it, he blew the f*****g free throws,” Perkins said regarding Durant.

The timing of Perkins’ remarks was interesting, as they came shortly after Durant had pushed back against critics who were questioning the Rockets’ recent form. That criticism had followed Houston’s strong response in ending the Atlanta Hawks’ 11-game winning streak, which had briefly shifted the narrative around the team.

Looking at Wednesday’s game, Durant genuinely tried to carry the team. He finished with 30 points. Alperen Şengün also put up 30 points. Both of them showed up, but it still was not enough.

The game itself started slowly for Houston. After the first quarter, they trailed by four points. At halftime, the gap had closed to just one point. In the second half, the Rockets scored 52 points and pushed the game into overtime.

But overtime is where it all fell apart. The Timberwolves went on a 15-0 run to close the game and won 110-108.

Minnesota came back from 13 points down in overtime, which is something no NBA team had done since the league started tracking play-by-play data back in the 1997-98 season. So the Rockets did not just lose; they became part of a historic collapse, and not the good kind.

That is what made Perkins’ comments hit even harder. It was not just a regular loss. The Rockets had the game in their hands in overtime and still could not hold on. They will have to quickly move on from this loss. They will need to gear up for the next game, which is against the Memphis Grizzlies on March 27.
