With the stars continuing to align for the Milwaukee Bucks to potentially trade disgruntled forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, the asking price is under criticism. Antetokounmpo has hinted that he’s open to a trade. Yet the Bucks are seeing some criticism over what the NBA franchise would want in return. In fact, one NBA general manager is talking about it, albeit anonymously.
What’s Latest on Bucks Trading Giannis Antetokounmpo?
On Thursday, NBA insider Marc Stein, who publishes “The Stein Line” on Substack, had some interesting comments from someone in the NBA when the topic of trading Antetokounmpo came up.
“‘They’re asking for the moon,’ one general manager told me on Thursday morning,” Stein wrote. “‘All of your young players and all of your draft picks.'”
In the article, Stein also wrote that the “Bucks’ grudging realization over the course of this season that trading Antetokounmpo might finally be best for both sides.”
The NBA trade deadline is on February 5, which still gives the Bucks time to put together a trade for Antetokounmpo if they can. Stein, though, had some additional thoughts on what the Bucks just might do at this point. It’s clear, though, that Milwaukee is, at least, listening to potential trade offers from around the league.
“That doesn’t guarantee that Antetokounmpo will be traded in the next week, but it has dramatically increased the likelihood … even with Antetokounmpo sidelined indefinitely by his second serious right calf injury of the season,” Stein wrote on Thursday.
Antetokounmpo is in his 12th NBA season, all with the Bucks. He was the team’s first-round draft choice (No. 15 overall) in the 2013 NBA Draft. So far in the 2025-26 NBA regular season, Antetokounmpo is averaging 28.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 5.6 assists, and shooting 64.5% from the floor. He also has numerous accolades to his name.
He won an NBA championship in 2021, the Finals MVP in 2021, 10 All-Star selections, and the Best Male Athlete ESPY Award in 2019.
With Antetokounmpo potentially involved in a trade soon, the Bucks are likely to have a long list of demands. If what that NBA general manager said is even close to other potential deals, then Milwaukee wants quite a haul for their star forward.
Entering Thursday night’s NBA action, when the Bucks will play a road game against the Washington Wizards, Milwaukee has an 18-27 overall record.
Milwaukee sits in fourth place in the NBA’s Central Division, 16 games behind the front-running Detroit Pistons. The Bucks also have lost three straight games, so they’ll look to get back in the win column against the Wizards.
