3-Time NBA All-Star Urges Lakers To ‘Answer’ Austin Reaves Trade Calls

A 3-time NBA All-Star urges the Los Angeles Lakers to at least listen to trade calls surrounding star guard Austin Reaves.

The Los Angeles Lakers star guard Austin Reaves has quietly become one of the hottest names on the NBA trade market, and not because the Lakers are actively shopping him. Instead, his recent surge in production has sparked league-wide interest.

That has now prompted a Three-time NBA All-Star to weigh in with a blunt but calculated take on how the Lakers should approach the situation.

Gilbert Arenas Explains Why the Lakers Should at Least Listen to Austin Reaves

Three-time NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas took to X and first ignited the debate on whether Reaves should be delivering or not with a strong message that framed the situation strictly through a championship lens. While acknowledging his admiration for Reaves, the former Wizards star made it clear that emotional attachment should never outweigh the opportunity to compete for banners.

He wrote on X, “I love AR… but I love banners more. If Austin Reaves stock at an all-time high, and it gets me in the Jokic or Giannis conversation? Pack the bags. That’s not hate, that’s business. Sell high, win big.”

The comment immediately drew attention, especially given Reaves’ recent stretch of elite production. Over the past several games, the 27-year-old guard has posted multiple 30- and 40-point outings while shouldering a heavy offensive load. His efficiency, playmaking, and ability to perform in high-pressure moments have only strengthened his reputation as one of the league’s most valuable complementary stars.

That surge has not gone unnoticed across the league. Reaves has reportedly been involved in trade discussions dating back to last season, with multiple teams inquiring about his availability. Despite that interest, the Lakers have consistently pushed back and have rejected numerous offers.

However, Arenas later took to X and clarified that his stance is being misinterpreted. He is not calling for Reaves to be moved at all costs. Instead, he believes the Lakers would be wise to listen simply.

“I’m not saying trade Austin Reaves… I’m saying answer the phone. He’s hoopin’ out his mind right now, value at an all-time high. I don’t see him holding this market forever, so you gotta see what’s out there. If the offers trash, cool, keep him, and we still good. That’s just smart business.” Arenas wrote.

Reaves has been sidelined due to a mild calf strain, and it is reported that he is set to miss a couple of games. However, He has been exceptionally great this season. He is averaging 27.8 points, shooting 50.3% from the field with 5.6 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game.

For now, Los Angeles appears content holding onto one of its most reliable contributors. It will remain to be seen how things go for the star guard in the near future.
