Gilbert Arenas Explains Why Nico Harrison Still Holds On to GM Job Despite Luka Dončić Mistake

Gilbert Arenas reveals why Nico Harrison still has a job as the GM for the Dallas Mavericks despite facing negativity since the Luka Dončić trade.

NBA fans are dying to know why Nico Harrison still has his job as the Dallas Mavericks GM. After deciding to trade away Luka Dončić in exchange for Anthony Davis, Harrison has received a lot of negative publicity. Fans who feel cheated out of losing a generational talent have threatened him.

Gilbert Arenas, a former NBA star, hosts a well-known podcast called Gil’s Arena. In a recent episode, Arenas discussed the trade and his perspective on why Harrison could still hold on to his position.

Was Nico Harrison Truly Responsible for the Luka Dončić Trade?

This trade between the Los Angeles Lakers and Mavericks stunned the basketball world because few knew about it. According to reports, only Rob Pelinka and Nico Harrison executed the trade. As a result, the fans simply had no one else to blame but Harrison.

On his podcast, Arenas opined that Harrison’s holding onto his job was proof that other unnamed individuals were responsible for the trade.

“The fact that Nico still has his job lets you know that it didn’t have nothing to do with Nico. He’s just the one to get punished for it, you know, cant really throw dirt on his name. Obviously, he’s just the middleman here. Everybody who needed to know knew…”

Arenas named several people who “must” have known that the trade would take place. The owners of the Mavericks and Lakers, Jason Kidd, and JJ Redick are some of the people Arenas claimed to have been involved in the trade for Dončić.

The others on the podcast also alluded that players like LeBron James might have known this trade would happen and that any number of powerful, unnamed individuals could be responsible for the trade.

Since Harrison still has his job, that alone might prove that he was following higher-ups’ orders. Unfortunately, there is no way to determine who was truly responsible for this trade and who should be held accountable.

It is also too soon to tell if the Mavs made a mistake. Not only can they still squeeze into the playoffs through the play-in tournament, but the squad isn’t expected to be at full strength until Kyrie Irving returns sometime next season.

If Dallas can win an NBA championship before the Lakers, all the blame Harrison has been receiving will turn into credit and praise. However, that is not expected to happen as things stand.

Y’all learn a buzz word and use it because you think it’s cool. All of a sudden everybody is a generational talent. I guess it hasn’t dawned on you what a generational talent is. A generational talent is a talent that only comes around once every few generations. Luka is not a generational talent. He is a super star in the league. Kobe Bryant wasn’t even a generational talent. Everybody that is good is not a generational talent. If you’re calling multiple players generational talent, then they aren’t generational talents. That makes them run of the mill superstar talent
