Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Rumors: Bucks Star Prefers 1 Team ‘Above All the Rest’

According to a report, Giannis Antetokounmpo prefers one destination as the Milwaukee Bucks’ trade rumors intensify during the 2025-26 season.

Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumors have taken over the NBA world. Multiple scenarios have sent the Milwaukee Bucks superstar to various destinations, with analysts and fans eager to see how his year unfolds.

Of course, despite multiple reports hinting at a possible move, it isn’t easy for the Bucks to trade a franchise icon like Antetokounmpo. And though specific NBA markets make more sense for the 31-year-old star, reports suggest the Greek Freak might have one sole destination in mind.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Rumors Continue to Evolve as Bucks Star Reportedly Prefers One Trade Destination

There’s no sure-shot trade destination for Antetokounmpo. The team needs enough cap space to accommodate his three-year, $175,369,698 contract, which amounts to an annual salary of $58,456,566.

According to Jake Fischer’s recent report on The Stein Line, Antetokounmpo has a preferred city to which he would like to be traded.

“It’s true: There’s a strong belief leaguewide that Antetokounmpo desires one destination above all the rest in the event that he actually does fully ask out someday. New York,” Fischer wrote.

The report noted that Madison Square Garden, the Knicks’ home, was a significant draw for Antetokounmpo.

“After some further calls, I can confirm that the Knicks — as well as playing in Madison Square Garden — were the specific ‘temptation’ that Giannis himself publicly acknowledged on Bucks Media Day as an outcome he pondered during the summer,” Fischer added.

Fischer also noted that Antetokounmpo is inclined to join a team with a legitimate chance at the 2026-27 NBA title.

“That’s why many of the same execs believe that Antetokounmpo — if a trade process actually commences for real — will have a strong say in dictating where he ends up,” Fischer said.

Bucks Have to be Smart About Antetokounmpo’s Trade

A previous report compared Antetokounmpo’s situation to the Dallas Mavericks’ trade of Luka Dončić. One NBA executive suggested that the Bucks cannot afford to repeat the same mistakes the Mavericks made.

According to Fischer’s earlier reporting, rival front office executives believe Milwaukee has yet to make its position clear to potential bidders. One executive remarked that the Bucks should take the opposite approach of Dallas, holding a leaguewide auction and selecting the best available package.

An open auction of sorts might bring a better deal to Milwaukee, especially considering the team needs to rebuild after trading its icon.

With the Bucks since the 2013-14 season, Antetokounmpo is averaging 28.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists this season. He is currently sidelined with a calf injury and is expected to miss about four weeks.
