Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Pays Homage to NBA Legends After Rewriting History Books

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo was encouraged to compare himself to other NBA legends after achieving his most recent historical milestone. Although it has been almost half a decade since Antetokounmpo and the Bucks won an NBA championship, there is no denying that he is still one of the best active players in the league.

Antetokounmpo’s dominance throughout his career has earned him a reputation and comparisons to other forces of nature, such as Shaquille O’Neal. After becoming the sixth youngest player ever to record over 21,000 points just six days before his 31st birthday, Antetokounmpo was asked to share his thoughts on his own accomplishment.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Believes He Can Become the NBA’s All-Time Leading Scorer

Antetokounmpo’s journey to success is truly inspirational. Coming to the United States as a young basketball prospect with hopes and dreams, Antetokounmpo already cemented his position in league history by becoming a franchise cornerstone and NBA champion.

His most recent accomplishment, becoming the sixth-youngest player to record 21,000 points, is worthy of praise. After all, the only other players to have achieved this milestone faster are LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Wilt Chamberlain, and Kevin Durant.

Joining this list of legendary players has filled Antetokounmpo with confidence. After praising them, the Bucks star hinted at the possibility of taking the spot as the all-time leading scorer before his career comes to an end.

“First of all, we gotta talk about who those guys are. The GOATs of the GOATs…I dont think anybody in this world would disagree. Just to be in that list with them is incredible. Have I accomplished as much as them? I dont think so. Do I have a lot of room to grow and improve in the years to keep on writing my own legacy?”

The Bucks star continued his confident monologue, “Yes, and I think to get to the top of the scoring list is not six, seven, eight years. In my opinion, I think it’s four years away…I think when I’m going to be 35 years old and sitting in this chair having a discussion on how I am one of the top leaders of all time in scoring, and I will have talked that into existence and not just talking into existence, I believe that I am going to do it.”

While there is no denying that Antetokounmpo has the potential to take over the top spot as the all-time leading scorer in league history, we should keep in mind that James currently holds the spot and is yet to retire. Now in his 23rd season, the Lakers legend has amassed 42,250 points and continues adding to that total. Therefore, his four or five-year expectation cannot be determined if he is truly looking out for that #1 position. However, the Bucks star remains unfazed and as confident as ever.

Through 15 games, the two-time MVP is posting 30.9 points per game. Antetokounmpo has climbed to 42nd on the NBA’s all-time scoring list with 21,002 points. His next target is Hall of Famer Hal Greer, who sits ahead of him with 21,586 career points.
