Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks have been struggling to climb the ranks in the Eastern Conference this season. Despite Antetokounmpo’s efforts to carry the team with his MVP-like numbers, Milwaukee is currently in ninth place in the Eastern Conference with an 8-7 record, losing three of its last four games.
However, after the events that took place on Monday, it seems the Bucks will have to make major adjustments in the next couple of weeks.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Suffers an Injury Against the Cavaliers
The Bucks took on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday. It was a game Milwaukee wanted to win, especially after coming off a huge loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday.
Heading into Monday’s game, Antetokounmpo seemed determined to take down the Cavaliers. In the first quarter alone, the “Greek Freak” carried the Bucks to a 33-26 lead, putting up 11 points, four assists, three rebounds, and one steal.
However, after nearly six minutes of play in the second quarter, Antetokounmpo was hurt and forced to return to the locker room. His absence contributed to Milwaukee’s 118-106 loss.
NBA insider Shams Charania reported on Tuesday that Antetokounmpo suffered a low-grade left groin strain. He is expected to miss one to two weeks of basketball action. Unfortunately for the Bucks, they will have to manage without their superstar for as much as two weeks. However, Antetokounmpo avoided a more serious injury, and the likelihood of an extended absence remains low.
“Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo sustained a low-grade left groin strain and will miss 1 to 2 weeks,” Charania reported. “Positive outcome after tests on Tuesday for Antetokounmpo, who is the only player in the NBA averaging 30 points and 10 rebounds.”

Looking at Antetokounmpo’s numbers so far this season, he’s putting up MVP-caliber numbers once again. He’s averaging 31.2 points, 10.8 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game. However, given the Milwaukee Bucks’ underwhelming performance to date, his path to the MVP award appears challenging.
Antetokounmpo currently ranks third in the NBA.com MVP ladder, behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic. Should Milwaukee significantly improve its record over the remaining 67 games, a late-season surge could still position Antetokounmpo as a viable contender for the award.
