Giannis Antetokounmpo’s availability issues have resurfaced at the worst possible time for Milwaukee.
What Happened to Giannis Antetokounmpo?
The two-time MVP exited Sunday’s home game against the Indiana Pacers early, and the Bucks’ broadcast captured the concerning moment in full, showing Antetokounmpo walking very slowly through the tunnel toward the locker room.

No official diagnosis was immediately confirmed, but the visual alone was enough to set off alarm bells for a franchise that has watched its star miss significant time repeatedly throughout the 2025-26 season.
The timing makes it all the more difficult to process. Antetokounmpo had only just returned to the court after missing 15 consecutive games with a right calf strain that sidelined him from January 27 through March 1.
He suited up in Milwaukee’s previous six games following that return, averaging 27.2 minutes per night during that stretch and 25.7 points per game.
He then sat out Saturday’s 122-99 road loss to the Atlanta Hawks with a calf and ankle issue before being upgraded to available ahead of Sunday’s game against Indiana. Bucks head coach Doc Rivers confirmed pregame that Antetokounmpo, Bobby Portis, and Myles Turner were all expected to play.
That optimism did not last long. After getting onto the floor for Sunday’s matchup, Antetokounmpo exited early in what became another distressing chapter in a season defined by his inability to stay healthy. The broadcast footage of him moving slowly toward the locker room drew immediate reaction, with fans and observers across the league taking note of how labored his movement appeared.
This has been a recurring pattern all season. Antetokounmpo has played just 36 games in 2025-26 due to a series of injuries. He missed an earlier stretch with a left groin strain, then missed another extended run with the right calf strain, and now appears to be dealing with a new issue.
Across the games he has appeared in this season, he has averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and a steal while shooting 62.4 percent from the field. The production has been elite when he is on the floor. The problem has been getting him there.
Milwaukee’s record is now 28-39, sitting 11th in the Eastern Conference and more than five games out of the NBA Play-In Tournament.
The victory provides some short-term relief, but the Antetokounmpo situation remains the story. An official update has come through, where the star said he hyperextended his knee. He also mentioned he could have returned to the game, but he didn’t.
Bucks fans will hope this is a precautionary move to ensure the superstar doesn’t end up sidelined for a significant period once again.
