Undoubtedly, the hot topic of the NBA offseason is the future of Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Milwaukee Bucks’ summer remains in flux until the superstar decides whether he wants to request a trade or remain with the team that drafted him. Although the winds appear to be blowing in the direction that he wants to stay with the organization that he’s been loyal to his entire career, there will be a spotlight on him until a firm decision is made.
Antetokounmpo wants to compete for another championship, and the unfortunate news that co-star Damian Lillard’s torn Achilles will likely cost him all of next season, Milwaukee is in a tough spot with limited assets to improve the roster. ESPN’s NBA insider Shams Charania is one of the top insiders in the basketball space, and he has been covering this saga since it started. In fact, his report about Antetokounmpo being “open-minded” about a possible trade is what kicked off the drama.
Charania has massive shoes to fill, as he replaced Adrian Wojnarowski, who was widely regarded as the top NBA insider before retiring from ESPN last year. Well, Antetokounmpo posted in support of Woj, and some perceived it as a dig at his replacement, Charania.
Giannis Antetokounmpo Posts In Support of Adrian Wojnarowski Amid Trade Rumors
The Bucks star turned heads when he posted in support of Wojnarowski on the platform X.
“Does anyone else miss Woj?” Antetokounmpo posted.
Does anyone else miss Woj?!

It’s unclear what motivated him to post this, but fans immediately took it as a shot at Charania, particularly since the ESPN insider has been talking about Antetokounmpo quite a bit recently. Right before this post went up, Charania appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” and discussed Antetokounmpo’s future, saying that the Bucks star may wait until July or August to make a decision on his NBA future.
“When you’re a star of that caliber, the league moves the way you want it to move,” Charania said.
Charania added that executives around the league are skeptical that he’ll ask for a trade due to his loyalty.
“There’s a level of skepticism… There’s a difference between being ‘open-minded’ and, from what I am told, exploring other options, actively exploring other options,” Charania said. “There’s a difference between doing that and asking for a trade. He’s in the process of figuring out what he wants to do.”

The timing of the report and Antetokounmpo’s post made fans wonder if his positive post about Woj was meant to be a subtle shot at Charania.
“Buddy said Shams blows,” one fan posted.
“Don’t disrespect Shams, pal,” another user added.

A Bucks fan account agreed with Antetokounmpo: “We all do GA, all of us.” The post included a hilarious superimposed image of Wojnarowski in a Bucks uniform dunking on Charania.

Others connected the dots and assumed that Antetokounmpo must be upset about Charania’s recent reporting: “Why did @ShamsCharania say something you didn’t like?”
While Wojnarowski is a legend and an NBA offseason without “Woj Bombs” will be strange, Charania is also tremendously skilled and a hard worker, and he has garnered a huge following as a result. At the end of the day, Antetokounmpo may have just been giving Wojnarowski his flowers and didn’t mean for his post to shade Charania, as his followers assumed.
Antetokounmpo is still weighing his NBA options, and all eyes will be on the Bucks superstar until he makes his decision — with Charania likely providing the latest rumors every step of the way.
