Houston Rockets point guard Fred VanVleet was set to enter the final year of his contract. But before it ends, he agreed to a contract extension that will keep him in Houston for two more years. Once undrafted in 2016, VanVleet has since become an NBA champion and an All-Star, showing how far he’s come.
With this new agreement, he has secured a substantial payday while providing the team with more financial flexibility. Additionally, his salary structure will also change. Here’s everything you need to know about his payout following the new deal, as well as updates to his net worth and overall earnings.

Fred VanVleet’s New Contract and Salary with the Rockets
The Rockets were nearing the end of VanVleet’s contract. He inked a $128.5 million, three-year contract in 2023, with an additional $44.9 million option for the 2025–26 season. It made him one of the highest-paid guards in the league at the time.
However, the Rockets didn’t exercise that option. They turned it down instead and worked out a new $50 million, two-year deal for June 2025. It also comes with a player option for the 2026–27 season.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported, “Houston Rockets guard Fred VanVleet intends to sign a two-year, $50 million contract to stay with the franchise, with a player option in 2026-27, sources tell ESPN. Rockets are declining VanVleet’s $44.9 million team option and land the new deal with Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul.”

Unfortunately, this deal is not exactly an upgrade. The 31-year-old guard will earn less money per year than he would have under his previous contract. However, this gives the Rockets more room to invest in other players or address roster needs. To make it happen, his salary has now dropped to around $25M now, nearly half of what he earned before.
Normally, players don’t agree to a reduced paycheck, but VanVleet did because the Rockets are now aiming for a championship run with future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant leading the charge.
Their 2024–25 season was solid, with a 52–30 finish in the regular season. Unfortunately, they lost to the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the playoffs, but they put up a strong fight.
Now, their goal is to reach the Finals and win the NBA title next season. If VanVleet becomes part of that journey, it would be the most meaningful achievement of his career.
Fred VanVleet’s Net Worth
According to Celebrity Net Worth, VanVleet’s net worth is estimated to be around $20 million. However, his career earnings have surpassed $165 million. He also has endorsement deals with sneaker brands like AND1 and Li-Ning.
Due to these additional income sources, Surprise Sports projects his net worth to be approximately $210 million as of 2025. Since he has never publicly disclosed his actual net worth, it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly where he stands financially.
