Former Dallas Mavericks player Maxi Kleber, who is now playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, shared his thoughts on Nico Harrison getting fired. The Mavericks organization decided to relieve Harrison from his duties as their general manager on Tuesday after a poor start to their 2025-26 season.
Kleber was one of the players whom Harrison traded to the Lakers last season, alongside Luka Dončić. The Slovenian star was clearly upset with what transpired last season, and he has expressed that on several occasions. But what about the German veteran?

Maxi Kleber Has Moved On From the Mavericks
Despite all the ruckus surrounding former Mavericks general manager Harrison, Lakers forward Kleber would rather not look back at his past. In a recent conversation with ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, Kleber made it clear that he’s no longer stuck in the past and is focused on playing in Los Angeles.
Kleber understands the nature of the business in the NBA and knows that not even Harrison, who was in a position of power, was safe. He also mentioned how happy Dončić is since getting traded.
“I mean, at the end of the day, we’re (with the Lakers) right now, so I think it’s not worth going back all the time. I would just move on from that,” Kleber said. “It’s a fast business, man. Players, GMs, coaches, everybody. Always got to be ready for the next move.”
“I think (Luka DonÄŤić) is having a good time here,” Kleber added. “He’s enjoying his time here. We focus on the team we have right now. We’re just happy to be here and where we are. It’s a fresh start, and like I said, we have a great group of guys. Everybody’s celebrating each other. Everybody feels comfortable. It’s like a family here.”

Right now, the Mavericks organization, struggling with a 3-8 start, is still trying to figure out who they want at the helm of the general manager position moving forward. There are a few names that popped up on Tuesday; however, they were all just speculations. These were, namely, Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki and Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd.
For now, assistant general managers Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi have been named co-interim general managers to oversee basketball operations. Their main goal while waiting for the next general manager is to try to build around Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg, especially with Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving out of the picture.
