‘Where’s Miami’s Team At?’ – Ex-NBA Forward Blasts Heat Players For Failing to Protect Bam Adebayo Against LaMelo Ball

LaMelo Ball has caused major controversy after apparently injuring Bam Adebayo during the Hornets vs. Heat play-in game recently.

The Charlotte Hornets and Miami Heat recently went head-to-head in a tough play-in game at the Spectrum Center. The Hornets took the win at home after a tough fight, beating the Heat 127-126. Miami will fly back after yet another disappointing season, followed by two first-round exits in the last two years.

But that wasn’t all that caught the eye of the sporting world. There was another incident that has caused major controversy, and there are even talks of a potential suspension coming a Hornets star’s way.

LaMelo Ball’s Antics Against Bam Adebayo Sparks Major Controversy

For some context, Hornets star LaMelo Ball pulled off what was branded a dirty move in the second quarter. After his failed attempt at a layup against Bam Adebayo and Simone Fontecchio, Ball fell to the ground. As Adebayo grabbed the ball that was going out of bounds, Ball seemed to pull the Heat big man’s leg, causing him to fall eventually.

This act turned out to be more dangerous than any of us expected, as it took Adebayo out of the rest of the game. Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra was understandably upset with Ball and felt that the guard should have been ejected from the game.

NBA insider Chris Haynes also reported recently that the NBA is officially launching a review into the incident, as the guard could potentially face a suspension. Many are citing the nonexistent punishment Joel Embiid received for grabbing Mitchell Robinson’s leg back in April 2024 and claim that Ball could escape, too.

Amid all this, former NBA forward Charlie Villanueva has weighed in on the situation. He said on the ‘To the Baha’ show recently, “My take is this, where is the Miami team at? Like, I think what I mean by that is if you see your teammate go down like that, that’s our best player, where’s his teammate at as far as defending him, right? I think it gets overlooked because no one did anything, and they didn’t make a big deal out of it.”

He also mentioned that if the Heat players, for example, Tyler Herro or Andrew Wiggins, took matters into their hands and started a commotion, the chances of Ball receiving a punishment would be greater.

“So, because no one did that it gets over looked and now you lose the game because if Bam is playing it might have been a different outcome,” Villanueva added.

It certainly is an interesting situation as to whether the NBA will slap Ball with a suspension or a potential fine. But it cannot be denied that if Adebayo had played, the outcome might have been different, favoring the Heat in the narrow play-in loss.

The Hornets will now face either the Orlando Magic or the Philadelphia 76ers this Friday. It would surely be another classic clash for the team as Ball looks to make it to his first-ever postseason appearance.
