It’s the final weekend before the NBA regular season begins, which means you’re coming here for your fantasy basketball drafts.
Should you draft Evan Mobley this season? Here’s the latest outlook, projections, and rankings for the Cleveland Cavaliers Power Forward.
Should You Draft Evan Mobley in Fantasy Basketball?
Evan Mobley upped his scoring average in a significant way last season (18.5 PPG, his first season over 16.2) and did it without sacrificing anything in terms of efficiency.
In his fourth season, Mobley fired 230 threes in 71 games, only 23 fewer than he had in the first 198 games of his career. If you want to get in the weeds, Cleveland would be wise to scheme toward his strengths even further.
The 37% shooting from deep was plenty impressive, but 41.7% from the corners is really interesting. Less than 25% of his triple tries came in such spots as a result of pick-and-pop attempts generally coming in the middle of the floor, but does Cleveland find creative ways to get the former third overall pick more looks where he is more comfortable now that they are aware of the strength?
I think it’s possible, but that would be icing on the cake. I trust the shooting stroke (his FT% has increased each season) and by averaging at least 1.4 blocks per game on an annual basis, we are looking at a new-age big that helps us across the board.
For me, this is the type of player you reach for a few picks early in the second half of the second round instead of hoping that he’ll be there for you early in the third. Give me Mobley over a similar player with less growth potential in Bam Adebayo and certainly over a more traditional big in Ivica Zubac.
