Rudy Gobert has been playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves for four seasons. While the center has yet to achieve sustained success with the team, the Timberwolves remain formidable, particularly after back-to-back trips to the Western Conference finals.
Despite that progress, Gobert does not appear fully satisfied with the team’s chemistry. He recently made a subtle remark about his teammates, which an ESPN analyst noticed and addressed.
ESPN Analyst Blasts Rudy Gobert for Comment on Timberwolves’ Offense
Gobert’s presence in the paint remains significant. He is a four-time Defensive Player of the Year, recognized for his rim protection and rebounding.
One aspect that may be overlooked is his efficiency as an inside scorer. With Anthony Edwards now firmly established as the Timberwolves’ franchise cornerstone, Gobert believes he is receiving fewer touches, limiting his scoring opportunities.
In a recent interview, Gobert was asked what he missed most about Kyle Anderson, who was traded to the Utah Jazz before the deadline. Gobert pointed to Anderson’s passing, which he said is less evident in the team’s current rotation.
“I think just passing the ball,” Gobert said. “I’ll be honest, I’ll be straight up. Yeah, someone who is looking to pass the ball to his teammates.”
ESPN analyst Tim MacMahon addressed Gobert’s remarks on “NBA Today.” MacMahon said that rather than focusing on teammates not sharing the ball, Gobert should concentrate on the Timberwolves’ momentum heading into the 2026 NBA Playoffs.
“Rudy, you guys are rolling,” MacMahon said. “You don’t need to be whining about not touching the ball. Protect the rim, as you’ve done to get four Defensive Player of the Year awards, okay? Run the floor. Run the rebounds. Set screens and roll. If you don’t touch the ball that much, who cares? You’re winning. This ain’t the time to be rocking the boat.”

The Timberwolves have been performing well recently. Minnesota is currently in fourth place in the Western Conference with a 39-23 record and is on a four-game winning streak.
The Houston Rockets sit in third place at 38-22. Given the close records, if the Rockets lose their next game and the Timberwolves win, Minnesota could move into third place.
