Social media was set ablaze after a wild rumor linking Nikki Spoelstra, ex-wife of Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra, to rising small forward Jaime Jaquez Jr. gained traction.
The speculation, fueled by her Instagram activity, quickly spiraled out of control, forcing Nikki to step in and shut it down. Now, she’s firing back at those spreading the false narrative.
Nikki Spoelstra Slams ‘Flat-Out Not True’ Rumors
Nikki Spoelstra became the center of controversy after a viral rumor accused her of having a relationship with Miami Heat forward Jaquez Jr. The 38-year-old former Heat dancer reportedly liked and commented on several of Jaquez’s Instagram posts, leading some to speculate about a deeper connection.
Nikki then issued a video statement to set the record straight with an emotional and fiery response.
“Y’all streets give me way too much power when (expletive) doesn’t go your way in pro sports,” she began. “It’s one thing for you sports fanatics to come onto my page after I made a really big life choice and talk crazy. And it’s another thing entirely for you to come to my page and harass me and call me crazy names over something.
“A rumor. A f****** story that is 100% flat out not true.”

She went on to explain why she wasn’t just ignoring the accusations.
“A lot of you gonna be like, ‘Why are you even addressing it? Just ignore the haters.’ No. You come over here, with your dirty feet in my space, I am gonna address you, and I am going to call you out.”
Moreover she further emphasized that the claims were entirely baseless and poorly constructed with no ground.
“This little rumor that you sports trolls are going wild about? I would never do that for two main reasons, which I actually don’t feel the obligation to explain to you. Just that it would not happen and it’s not real.
“And while your story might be entertaining with these little plot assumptions, there are so many holes in your story and quite frankly, it’s just really bad storytelling.”
The “Becoming: HER” podcast host also revealed that she had already spoken to Jaquez’s mother and his girlfriend, both of whom were dragged into the situation.
“So while all of you guys are entertaining yourselves with fabricated nonsense, I already talked to the girlfriend,” she continued. “I already talked to the mom, and the three of us are over here rolling our eyes at all you knuckleheads.”
She also addressed an old reel she had posted, where she joked about dating men under 25 and which probably helped fueled the rumors:
“Oh my gosh, and the reel that I posted about women in male-dominated fields dating men under 25 because they’re more easily manipulated—it’s a f****** joke, you guys. Everybody needs to relax. Let’s leave that can of worms right where I left it.”
To wrap up, she made it clear that she won’t tolerate harassment.
“Here’s the deal, you are not allowed to come to my page calling me names. You just not. I know what you’re thinking, like, ‘You’re a public person, you open up your page for the public.’ That’s true. You’re still not allowed to come to my space and talk s*** like that. No sir, no ma’am.”
“And also, let’s not forget, according to a lot of you guys, I’m too ugly and too old for this s*** anyway.”
Miami Heat Coach’s Ex-Wife Is No Stranger to Public Scrutiny
This isn’t the first time Nikki has found herself at the center of public scrutiny. Following her split from Erik Spoelstra, she was accused of being a gold digger—allegations she strongly denied.
The couple announced their separation in late 2023, just weeks before the Miami Heat coach signed a record eight-year, $120 million extension with the franchise. Addressing the speculation, Nikki told the Miami Herald:
“People are very quick to label women gold diggers. Like, ‘Oh, if she is with a successful person, she must be in it for the money.’
“Do you really think that’s all a husband brings to the table? In the end, no one really knows what happened.”
Nikki and Erik have three children together—Santiago (6), Dante (4), and Ruby (2).
Meanwhile, the Heat are struggling this season, sitting 10th in the Eastern Conference with a 30-41 record, having lost nine of their last 10 games. Jaquez, in his second season, is averaging 8.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.
