After being linked with multiple teams, LeBron James decided to play his next NBA season with the Philadelphia 76ers.
It is another opportunity for the 41-year-old to further cement his legacy, and former NFL star Emmanuel Acho is already making bold claims should James grab his fifth title with Philly.

After acquiring All-Star forward Jaylen Brown in a blockbuster trade, Philadelphia landed the biggest free agent of the offseason by signing James.
With the four-time NBA champion joining Brown, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey, the 76ers now have a star-studded lineup that immediately puts them among the league’s top title contenders.
The move marks a new chapter for James as he prepares for his 24th NBA season and his fourth franchise. He has won two titles with the Miami Heat and one each with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Lakers.
According to James’ agent, Rich Paul, the free agency decision narrowed down to the 76ers, Golden State Warriors, Heat, and Cavaliers. The 22-time All-Star ultimately opted to pick Philadelphia because he believed it offered the best opportunity to win another championship.
Acho believes that another title in Philadelphia would elevate James into a category unlike any other athlete.
“If LeBron wins a championship in Philly, I would believe he is the greatest winner in the history of sports because he is a greater catalyst for winning than anybody,” Acho said in the “Speakeasy” podcast on Sunday.

“If you can go to Cleveland and win their first championship in the history of the franchise, a franchise founded in 1970, if you can go to the Miami Heat and though they had won a championship several years prior, you win two championships there in back-to-back seasons.”
“Then you go to the Los Angeles Lakers, and you win their first championship in a decade… then if you can go to Philly, a city that has become a football city and win their first championship since 1983..There is no greater catalyst for winning in the history of sports than LeBron James, if he can win a championship in Philly.”
James also surprised many by accepting the smallest salary of his NBA career to make the move happen. He signed a two-year, $8 million contract with Philadelphia that includes a player option and a full 15% trade kicker.
The contract emphasizes that adding another championship now overshadows financial considerations.
Meanwhile, Acho’s argument that a fifth title with a fourth franchise could make James the greatest winner in sports history is compelling, as few athletes have carried championship expectations across so many different teams and succeeded.
However, some may point to Bill Russell’s unmatched résumé, as he won 11 NBA championships in 13 seasons with the Boston Celtics. It raises the question of whether five titles with four franchises overshadow 11 championships with a single dynasty when defining the greatest winner in sports history.
