Family Steals the Spotlight as Dyson Daniels Celebrates Career Milestone

On May 1, 2025, the Atlanta Hawks guard was celebrating a major achievement in his young career by winning the 2025 Most Improved Player (MIP) award. Also known as “the Great Barrier Thief,” Daniels is heralded for his exceptional defensive skills.

His mother, Brikitta Kool-Daniels, came and unexpectedly crashed his interview during TNT’s “Inside the NBA” live segment. This incident quickly went viral and captured the hearts of many fans.

In the video, she was dressed in a light-colored outfit and appeared alongside her son, who was wearing a black Adidas jacket. Both of them seemed happy to see each other and laughed together.

This is quite an achievement for Daniels; he boosted his scoring from 5.8 points per game with the New Orleans Pelicans in 2023-24 to 14.1 with the Hawks this season. His defense also leveled up, jumping from 1.4 steals per game to an absurd 3.0 (best in the league).

Brikitta-Daniels is no stranger to the spotlight. When Daniels was selected eighth overall by Pelicans in 2022, his mother was there too, wearing a white dress featuring a thigh-high slit and became an overnight sensation.

In his “Inside the NBA” interview, Daniels reflected on what the award meant and what helped him break out.

“It was just my third year in the league and, you know, my first two being in New Orleans. I felt like I kind of went in there and wasn’t myself. I feel like I kind of took a backseat role, so I came into this third year [and] really put my foot down and [tried to] go out there and show what I could do,” Daniels said. “And I think it was just a small step in the right direction this year. And, you know, I feel like I got a lot more in me.”

Shaquille O’Neal also took a moment to praise the 21-year-old guard: “I don’t want to ask a question. I want to congratulate you. You’re a fine young player. Respect your game, love how you play, you play the right way. Congratulations to you and your family, and much success to you, my young brother.”

To cap off the moment, Daniels’ father joined the set at the end of the segment, bringing balloons to celebrate his son’s breakout season.
