Victor Wembanyama has lived up to the hype as the new face of the San Antonio Spurs and the NBA. Because of him, the Spurs are one of the NBA’s best teams. Dwyane Wade is among the big fans of Wembanyama, recently praising the Spurs star for more than just his physical abilities.
Dwyane Wade Praises Victor Wembanyama’s Old-School Mentality
On his podcast, Wade explained why he is a fan of Wembanyama from a mentality perspective.
“If you’re a basketball fan, you have to love this guy’s mentality more so than anything,” Wade said. “Obviously, the way he plays, phenomenal, but his approach and his mentality to the game of basketball, he has a little old school in him, and that’s what we like as older dudes. We like a little (expletive) talking.
“We like the ‘I should be MVP’ talk. We like that because we don’t hear that no more. Everybody too nice and too complimentary of each other. He ain’t about none of that smoke! And it’s good because he can be that way. Everybody can’t do that, but the alien can.”
Wade then listed all of the accolades he believes Wembanyama will accrue before his career is over.
“We love Wemby. I do believe that this is a guy who’s gonna win obviously MVP in our league, championships in our league. If he stays healthy, he’s going to accomplish all the things. Defensive Player of the Year, he’s going to get all those awards to put him with some of the greats because he’s just that good, and he wants it, and he wants it now.”
Dwyane Wade with high praise for Victor Wembanyama:
“If you’re a basketball fan, you have to love this guys mentality… He has a little old school in him. We like a little sh*t talking. We like the ‘I should be MVP’ talk. We don’t hear that no more. Everybody to nice and… pic.twitter.com/gx82aTI7DW

When people say the sky is the limit, they are being figurative, and that’s the case for Wembanyama. One could argue it’s quite literal at the same time given his build.
Wembanyama is on track to have a legacy like LeBron James. He had high expectations going into the league, and he hasn’t done anything to dissuade people from believing that he and the Spurs are up next.
San Antonio is already one of the best teams in the NBA, and much of that is because of the firepower Wembanyama brings to the floor and the few flaws he has as a player. The Spurs aren’t the overwhelming favorites at the moment, but they are already good enough to be on the verge of a title.
Wembanyama might not win MVP or a title this season, but the fact that he’s already as far along as he is in Year 3 shows it may not be long before he has multiple.
