NBA Legend Dwyane Wade Reveals 1 ‘Special Thing’ About Browns QB Shedeur Sanders

NBA legend Dwyane Wade praised Browns rookie Shedeur Sanders, highlighting one special trait he believes will help the young QB succeed.

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders has quickly become one of the most polarizing young players in the NFL. While the hype surrounding him has brought a massive fan following, it has also fueled plenty of skepticism. One notable supporter, however, comes from outside the football world.

NBA legend Dwyane Wade is firmly in Sanders’ corner. The three-time NBA champion recently praised the Browns’ rookie, pointing to one “special” quality he believes separates Sanders from other young quarterbacks and could ultimately help him succeed at the professional level.

Dwyane Wade Explains What Makes Shedeur Sanders “Special”

Widely regarded as one of the best shooting guards of his generation, Wade knows leadership when he sees it. A three-time NBA champion with the Miami Heat and a former co-captain of Team USA, Wade has spent his career identifying the traits that separate great players from the rest, and he believes Sanders has them.

More than anything, Wade believes Sanders’ leadership is innate.

“I’m gonna go with what I love about Shedeur Sanders,” Wade said. “I think he just has an ability that you cannot see with the naked eye. There’s just something special that’s just inside and it’s internal, is in his DNA.”

Sanders, the son of NFL legend and Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, has been under the microscope since entering the league. That spotlight played a role in his polarizing draft process, ultimately leading to his slide to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. But rather than focusing on the noise, Wade sees a young athlete with elite composure and maturity.

“I just want to see him be successful on the football field like any other fan, but I love it when he gets in those press conferences,” Wade said. “I love how he handles himself. I love how he stands up for himself. I love how he doesn’t throw anybody under the bus. I love how he’s a leader, he takes it.”

Wade was specifically referencing Sanders’ poise when handling difficult media questions, even as reporters attempted to manufacture tension between the rookie quarterback and head coach Kevin Stefanski, who has been under scrutiny for the entire season for his treatment of the rookie.

On the field, Sanders has flashed the talent of a potential franchise quarterback across his first four starts, though inconsistency remains a concern. With three games remaining, he’ll need to finish strong to convince Cleveland that he’s the long-term answer and dissuade the team from targeting a quarterback in the 2026 draft.

As for Wade, the NBA legend has seamlessly transitioned into his post-playing career. Since retiring in 2019, he has become a basketball executive, holding minority ownership stakes in the Utah Jazz and the WNBA’s Chicago Sky. He also joined Amazon Prime Video’s NBA coverage for the 2025–26 season, continuing his influence on the game from a new seat.
