While coping with a heap of personal problems, Dwight Howard keeps finding reasons to smile. The former NBA superstar recently shared his love for the new Superman movie, revealing he’s already watched it twice.
Why Does Dwight Howard Connect So Deeply With Superman?
For someone who made “Superman” his signature nickname throughout his basketball career, watching the movie twice makes perfect sense. However, this viewing experience hit differently for Howard. He found himself relating to the character on a personal level during a turbulent time in his own life.
The eight-time All-Star said, “It was relatable. It had some things going on at home, in my life, where Superman trusted everybody.”

The Warner Bros. movie has been making headlines since its release, but it also brings back memories of Howard’s most iconic basketball moment. During the 2008 NBA All-Star weekend in New Orleans, Howard transformed into Superman for the dunk contest. He wore a red Superman costume, complete with a cape and the iconic “S” emblem on his chest.
Howard soared from the free-throw line to secure the dunk contest title that night. The performance, the style, and the execution are still celebrated as one of the most creative moments in NBA history.
While Howard continues to embrace his Superman persona, his real-life situation has taken a dramatic turn.
What Went Wrong With Dwight Howard’s Marriage To Amy Luciani?
Just months after announcing his marriage to Amy Luciani in January 2025, Howard faces divorce proceedings. His wife, a reality TV star, filed for divorce after only six months of marriage, claiming their union is “irretrievably broken.”
Luciani also stated that “there are no prospects for reconciliation.” She’s asking the court to help divide their marital assets fairly and is seeking alimony from Howard.
The couple had kept their relationship largely private before going public. In December 2024, they announced their engagement on Instagram with a joint post featuring both wearing diamond rings in a series of photos.
Their wedding followed quickly, complete with a luxurious honeymoon in Thailand. But the honeymoon phase ended abruptly, leaving both parties dealing with the financial and legal consequences of their split.
Howard, a former three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, is currently playing in his first season with the BIG3 League. He has not publicly addressed the separation or divorce proceedings.
