Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is the leading scorer in the NBA and one of the league’s biggest stars. With 21 NBA All-Star selections already to his credit, the Lakers superstar is once again pushing toward history, as a potential 22nd appearance in his 23rd season in the NBA, which would further solidify him among the greatest players in the game.
However, recent debates have surfaced questioning whether the 41-year-old forward still deserves All-Star recognition. Those conversations have not gone unnoticed, and the Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green was quick to shut down the criticism, delivering a blunt and passionate defense of James’ All-Star case.
Draymond Green Dismisses Doubts About LeBron James’ Fit as an All-Star
This season, James has experienced many ups and downs in his performance, and many fans have questioned his results despite delivering decent performances. This creates debate among fans.
In a recent episode of “The Draymond Green Show,” Green highlighted and explained why James should be on the All-Star list this season, emphasizing his career achievements and contributions to the NBA. He touched on what separates James from most All-Star candidates.
“I know a lot of people are like, ‘Aw, man, he shouldn’t be an All-Star.’ Like, shut up. Yes, he should because he’s an All-Star. He’s been the face of the NBA for 20 years,” Green said. “Yeah, figure it out. But there’s no world where LeBron James isn’t an All-Star this year. So, I see a lot of people saying that, and I get where you’re coming from, but I don’t get where you’re coming from. Like, he’ll be an All-Star.”
James continues to perform at a high level at the age of 41. He missed the first 14 games due to sciatic nerve irritation. In his 15 games played this season out of 31, he has averaged over 20 points per game while logging heavy minutes and contributing across the board with 4.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game. He has also been shooting at an efficient 49.6%.
In his most recent performance, he scored 17 points, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out four assists against the Pistons, which came in a losing cause.
James was selected as an All-Star in every season from 2005 through 2024, missing only his rookie year. That level of consistency has never been matched, and a 22nd selection would only reinforce his place as the most durable superstar in NBA history.
Meanwhile, the Lakers dropped to 20-11 in 31 games with a loss to the Pistons. They have struggled recently, going 4-6 in their last 10 games.
