Rich Paul and Maverick Carter Connected LeBron James and Draymond Green

James’ inner circle is well-known in NBA circles. Both Rich Paul and Maverick Carter have been close to LeBron since the beginning of his career. Since Paul is one of the league’s top agents, he had also already developed a relationship with Green.

Green admitted that he and James had no connection at all at first. But thanks to their mutual ties with Paul and Carter, things began to shift.

“Hell no, I hated Bron. We ain’t have no relationship at all,” Green said. “I had a relationship with Mav and Rich. I was really tight [with them]…. 2017 All-Star was in New Orleans, and Bron had a plane going to Anguilla, and Mav, Rich—everybody was going.”

Green continued, “I hadn’t decided where I was going after that All-Star game, so earlier that day I asked Mav, like, ‘Where you going?’ He was like, ‘We going to Anguilla.’ I was like, ‘Can I go?’ He was like, ‘Yeah, let me make sure there’s space on the plane.'”

Green went on to explain, “I don’t know if there was no space on the plane or not. But I think Bron probably said, ‘I ain’t gonna fly with him,’ and Mav got a different plane just so I could fly there.”

“We had two houses at the Four Seasons right next to each other. I don’t think there were two houses before—I think Bron said, ‘That dude is not staying in my house.’ Bron used to be like, ‘Man, why y’all deal with this dude?’ But just being around Rich and Mav, me and Bron ended up being around each other more, and then we started to build a relationship.”

Green said what really helped was realizing how much they had in common: “I realized, ‘Dang, bro really just like me. He use the same lingo I use, he’s from a place just like me.’ And we started to build from there—but it started off hectic. When I tried to hit him in the Finals when he spun around—there was beef. Like, I really tried to hit him.”

While some fans already knew Rich Paul represented Green, this gives a deeper look at how Carter and Paul helped turn two rivals into real-life friends.
