Draymond Green Clears the Air on Viral Spat With 89-Year-Old Nets Superfan Mr. Whammy

Draymond Green clarifies his heated moment with Nets superfan Mr. Whammy as the Warriors secure an important road win amid a turbulent season.

Draymond Green has a knack for making headlines for the wrong reasons, and he did so again during the Golden State Warriors’ road win over the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night. The four-time NBA champion engaged in a heated exchange with Nets superfan Mr. Whammy during the game, though any lingering tension appeared to be gone after the final buzzer.

Green’s on-court demeanor has long been viewed as both a blessing and a curse for the Warriors. His intensity and leadership help set the team’s tone, but his emotional outbursts have also led to frequent technical fouls, ejections, and suspensions.

The latest incident occurred midway through the third quarter with the score tied at 62–62. As Green stepped to the free-throw line, Mr. Whammy, seated courtside behind the basket, attempted to distract him.

Although Green ultimately converted the free throw, he took exception to the heckling and fired back, shouting, “Sit your old a** down.”

Golden State went on to secure a 120–107 victory, and Green addressed the viral moment during his postgame locker-room interview.

“I told him to sit his old a** down somewhere, man. Can’t be distracting me on my free throws… That was fun. I had a lot of fun tonight,” Green said.

Green finished the night with seven points, five rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal. Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler once again led the way offensively, combining for 48 points and nine assists, while four other Golden State players scored in double figures to help secure a critical road win.

At 17–16, the Warriors have just one more win than losses, a disappointing start by their standards. As a result, Green’s frustrations have occasionally boiled over. Earlier this season, he was ejected following a heated exchange with officials, and later had a tense sideline moment with his head coach, Steve Kerr.

On Monday night, Green picked up his fourth technical foul of the season, less than three minutes into the game, after shoving Nets center Nicolas Claxton to the floor.

Despite the turbulence, the Golden State Warriors remain eighth in the Western Conference standings. The Warriors sit 1.5 games ahead of the Memphis Grizzlies and 3.5 games ahead of the Portland Trail Blazers, while trailing the Phoenix Suns by 2.5 games and the Minnesota Timberwolves by 3.5 games.

Golden State will remain on the road for its next matchup, facing the Charlotte Hornets on New Year’s Eve at 1 p.m. ET.
