Officiating has been one of the primary storylines in the Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Lakers’ Western Conference semifinal series, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s questionable foul-drawing tactics at the center of the debate.
Despite widespread criticism surrounding the seemingly lopsided whistle entering Saturday’s Game 3 clash in Los Angeles, the reigning MVP was back to his usual ways early, irking the NBA world with his “shameless” pursuit of free throws.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Faces Backlash Over 1st-Half Foul-Baiting in Thunder-Lakers Game 3
Lakers star Austin Reaves and coach JJ Redick were outspoken about their officiating gripes after Thursday’s 125-107 Game 2 road loss that dropped them into a daunting 2-0 series deficit.
Reaves claimed that he was “disrespected” by the referees, while Redick declared that Reaves’ co-star, LeBron James, receives the “worst whistle of any star player” he has ever seen.
Conversely, Gilgeous-Alexander and Co. continued to have their way, with the four-time All-Star ruffling feathers with his postgame remark that the “more physical team” usually wins.
Gilgeous-Alexander followed that up by flailing around the court on numerous offensive possessions in Game 3, attempting to draw fouls on the likes of James and Reaves.
After entering halftime with 14 points on 4-for-14 shooting (28.6%), including 1-for-5 from 3-point range (20%), while going 5-for-6 from the free-throw line (83.3%), the NBA community on X let Gilgeous-Alexander hear about his divisive play style.

Despite his early offensive struggles, Gilgeous-Alexander still contributed with his gravity and ability to create opportunities for his teammates.
The Thunder overcame the Lakers’ blistering first-half shooting (11-for-20 from deep) to enter halftime trailing by only 2 points (59-57). From then on, the defending champions once again flexed their depth and overall offensive talent advantage in the second half en route to an emphatic 131-108 road victory.
