Devin Booker Drops 1-Word Reaction to Mammoth $145 Million Extension, Reshares Iconic 2015 Post for Suns

Devin Booker reacts with one-word after inking a $145M extension to stay with the Suns through 2030, showcasing his commitment to Phoenix.

Devin Booker just made history with the biggest contract in NBA history, but his one-word reaction tells a different story. While other superstars might celebrate with lengthy social media posts or press conferences, Booker simply wrote “Letsgo” and reposted his draft day message from 2015.

That simple response captures everything about his decade-long journey with Phoenix: loyalty, determination, and an unfinished mission that just got a lot more expensive.

How Will Booker’s Record-Breaking $145 Million Extension Change the Suns?

The Suns never had any intention of parting ways with Booker. They see the 28-year-old shooting guard in their future as they reportedly agreed to a $145 million contract extension with him.

Booker had already signed a $224 million supermax extension in 2022 for four seasons, and thus has three years remaining in this contract. With the new extension, Booker will be with the Suns through the 2029-30 season.

After agreeing to the blockbuster extension, Booker dropped a one-word reaction on social media platform X. “Letsgo,” he wrote.

He shared the comment by reposting his first reaction after the Suns picked him in the 2015 NBA draft. “Excited to say that I just touched down in Phoenix. Let’s get to work. [Phoenix Suns],” he had written back in 2015.

With his new $72.5 million annual salary, Booker eclipsed the record of reigning NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who signed a four-year, $285 million extension, whose annual average salary is $71.25 million.

What Does Booker’s Evolution as a Playmaker Mean for Phoenix’s Future?

Though the last two seasons have been disappointing for the Suns, Booker improved, particularly as a playmaker. After the NBA Finals loss in 2021, Booker’s assists per game have gradually increased.

As star point guard Chris Paul left before the 2023-24 season, Booker’s assists per game for the season were a then-high 6.9.

Last season, Booker averaged a career-high 7.1 assists per game. The presence of one of the greatest scorers, Kevin Durant, might have helped him in that aspect. Still, the duo couldn’t live up to the initial hype.

Durant now joined conference rivals, the Houston Rockets, who were the second seed last season behind the NBA champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder. Moreover, Bradley Beal is expected to be bought out, leaving Booker to spearhead the Suns’ rebuild.

Can Booker Lead Phoenix Through Their Toughest Rebuild Yet?

Booker’s prime is the only thing going for the Suns in the upcoming season. New General Manager Brian Gregory seems focused on developing young players like 2025 first-round pick Khaman Maluach and second-round picks Rasheer Fleming and Koby Brea.

The past trades for Durant and Beal have resulted in them having no control over their first-round picks till 2032. As such, Gregory and Booker have a tough road ahead.

Booker has played his entire NBA career with the Phoenix Suns, who selected him 13th in the 2015 NBA draft. A four-time All-Star, Booker reached the NBA Finals with the Suns in 2021 but lost to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Following the incredible season, the Suns grabbed the number one seed in the Western Conference in the 2021-22 season, but lost to the Dallas Mavericks in the semifinals. Since then, Booker and company have had disappointing results, even after teaming up with Durant and Beal the last two seasons.
