Should You Draft Devin Booker in Fantasy Basketball?

If you drafted Paul Skenes in baseball or Ashton Jeanty in football, Devin Booker is the late first round pick for you.

That profile means you trust raw talent over the surrounding cast and that’s the situation we have in Phoenix for a Suns team that is expected to win 29-32 games this year. Booker has averaged 25.6-27.8 points per game in seven straight seasons and has seen his assist numbers spike over the past two years with him being tasked with leading an offense with stars on either side of him.

That’s no longer the case, all apologies to the Jalen Green fans out there.

Last season, 52.4% of Booker’s FGA came without a defender closer than four feet to him. To say I expect that number to regress would be a drastic understatement and with that, his shooting splits are at serious risk and that’s saying something for a player coming off of the second worst 3P% (33.2%) of his career.

Booker is talented enough to piece together a strong statistical season, even if not many W’s are put on the board. I don’t doubt that, but he’s being drafted in the Trae Young/Steph Curry tier and that’s banking on a ceiling outcome in my opinion more than anything.
