Following a stellar performance against the Wolves, Sacramento Kings' DeMar DeRozan passed this Hall of Famer on NBA's all-time scoring list.

DeMar DeRozan had every reason to celebrate on Monday night. The Sacramento Kings star dropped 33 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves, leading his team to a stunning 117-112 overtime win.

The Kings kept their composure towards the end, overcoming a 10-point deficit to level the game and secure their second consecutive win. DeRozan, who led his team, had two different reasons to be proud of.

Sacramento Kings Star DeMar DeRozan Shares Candid Message After Advancing on NBA All-Time Scoring List

On Monday, DeRozan didn’t just lead the Kings to an OT win. DeRozan managed to secure himself a piece of NBA history, surpassing Hall of Famer Alex English, an eight-time All-Star, to move into the 24th spot on the league’s all-time scoring list with 25,629.

DeRozan, speaking to the media after the game, shared a heartfelt reaction to the scoring goal.

“I mean, just being within at…it really don’t hit me until, like, later on, when you realize there’s [only] so many people ahead of you when it comes to scoring. But you know, passing Alex English, especially me — because he was my mentor in my rookie year,” DeRozon revealed.

Speaking on English’s influence on him, DeRozan added, “He taught me a lot. I used to sit here and listen to him talk about his ability to score, and I learned so much from him. …Just being able to sit here and pass somebody that mentored me at 19 years old… definitely a cool thing.”

Spending the initial part of his career with the Toronto Raptors, DeRozan was moved to the San Antonio Spurs in 2018. Narrowly missing out on winning the title with the Raptors in 2019, DeRozan’s time in San Antonio was a missed bag. He ended up missing the playoffs in 2020 and 2021, eventually moving to the Chicago Bulls.

DeRozan made sure to bounce back in Chicago, averaging 25.5 points, 5.1 assists, and 4.7 rebounds in 229 games for the team. He also officially entered the 20,000 points club in 2022.

This season, DeRozan is scoring 18.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 50% from the field.

Reports Hint at a Possible DeRozan Trade

In a recent report, The Athletic’s Sam Amick reported that the Los Angeles Clippers might be interested in trading for DeRozan.

With the Kings off to a terrible 5-13 start, teams have already begun looking for trades. DeRozan, a seasoned veteran with ample playoff experience, could fit in with most teams that need a reliable ball handler and scorer.

“DeMar DeRozan, the 36-year-old who league sources say has some interest from the LA Clippers, has a partial guarantee on his deal for next season (approximately $10 million of his $25.7 million),” Amick wrote in his report.

The Clippers are off to their own worrisome start at 5-12, and could possibly offer a John Collins-DeRozan swap to cement the deal.
