Point guard Damian Lillard’s future is now hanging in the balance after the Milwaukee Bucks’ shocking decision to waive him. The team has also decided to stretch his contract for five years and will pay $22.5 million annually until the end of the agreed-upon period.
The Bucks have gone to these lengths to secure center Myles Turner, who is coming off an impressive NBA Finals run with the Indiana Pacers. Interestingly, he has been part of the Indy roster that knocked out the Bucks in the first round of the playoffs the last two seasons.
Damian Lillard’s Agent Aaron Goodwin Weighs In on 9-Time All-Star’s Future
Lillard is on a long road to recovery after tearing his Achilles during the playoff series against the Pacers. The point guard had just returned two games earlier after a deep vein thrombosis, and it was a heartbreaking end for him to suffer another serious injury days later.
Despite this, Lillard seems to be attracting some major interest. The Miami Heat are predicted to reignite their interest in the guard after failing to acquire him back in September 2023. NBA insider Chris Haynes has also claimed that the Portland Trail Blazers could reunite with their franchise’s top scorer.
That said, Lillard’s agent has now commented on the situation. He has provided a possible timeline for the player’s decision and outlined what options are currently on the table.
“It’s an incredible opportunity for Damian,” Goodwin said via Aaron J. Fentress. “He receives all of his money guaranteed, and it provides him an opportunity to decide his next destination as an unrestricted free agent.”

Goodwin added that Lillard can recover at home while being close to his family. It could take until next year for him to heal completely, and choosing his next team will be vital for his career. Goodwin then confirmed that Lillard’s goal is to take his time and carefully analyze all possible options.
The Bucks have chosen to part ways with Lillard despite his best efforts to return from injury and perform for the franchise. Although it may be a ruthless decision, it delivers much-needed financial freedom for Milwaukee.
They are now able to sign an in-form player who can deliver immediately. Lillard’s Achilles injury placed the Bucks in an awkward spot before they ultimately decided to save money on his contract. As for Lillard, he will now take his time to hear all possible offers and decide on the next step in his career.
