‘CAUGHT A BODY’ — NBA World Reacts to Cooper Flagg’s ‘NASTY POSTER’ Dunk in Mavericks-Clippers Game

Cooper Flagg's thunderous dunk over Brook Lopez sparks massive reactions and amplifies his Rookie of the Year case in Dallas

Cooper Flagg had already heard the chants. The Clippers’ infamous “Wall” section greeted him at the free-throw line, shouting “Overrated!” but the 19-year-old responded the only way he knows how.

He made them regret it.

Flagg hit both free throws and also delivered the play that stopped the basketball world mid-scroll: a full-force, one-handed tomahawk slam over Brook Lopez that left the Intuit Dome momentarily stunned.

NBA World Erupts Over Cooper Flagg’s Thunderous Poster: ‘Face of the League’

The dunk arrived with the Mavericks still digging themselves out of a massive first-quarter hole, and it became the defining image of the night almost instantly.

Reactions poured in from every corner of the basketball world.

The NBA’s official account set the tone immediately. “COOPER FLAGG JUST WENT FULL FORCE,” they posted, adding: “POWERFUL tomahawk slam for the rookie 💥”

ESPN’s Sam Block went beyond the individual play and made the broader case. “Cooper Flagg is 19 years old and doesn’t have off nights. Like the guy literally produces every single night and never complains. His team isn’t great. His situation is less than ideal. He doesn’t care. He just hoops. Face. Of. The. League.”

The declaration resonated widely. Flagg had just come off a 51-point night against Orlando and a 45-point outing against the Lakers, and was now posterizing Lopez on a back-to-back against a playoff team with half his roster missing.

NBA writer Earl K. Sneed kept his focus on the Rookie of the Year race that the dunk only amplified. “I like Kon Knueppel, but Cooper Flagg is finishing this season on a different level,” he wrote.

It’s a sentiment that has become increasingly difficult to argue against as the season reaches its final days.

Flagg’s alma mater, the Duke Blue Devils, kept it even simpler. “COOPER FLAGG CAUGHT A BODY,” they wrote, sharing the clip.

NBA on ESPN posted: “COOPER FLAGG NASTY POSTER 🔥”

Flagg finished the night with 25 points and 9 rebounds despite shooting 9-of-25 from the field in a 116-103 loss. The dunk over Lopez, he said afterward, was one of his favorites from the entire season.

On the “Overrated” chants from The Wall, he was equally unbothered. “That’s something I’ve heard since high school. It kind of brought me back a little bit. The whole Wall thing is kind of funny, you don’t see that in the league very often.”

The loss dropped Dallas to 25-54, but the individual statement was clear. Flagg entered Tuesday’s game having scored 96 points over his previous two outings, the most by a rookie in any two-game span since Wilt Chamberlain, per Elias Sports Bureau.

He now leads all rookies in scoring at 21.2 points per game.
